HPU last stepped on the field to face off against St. Bonaventure University. High Point started the game with a strong 5-0 run. St. Bonaventure got on the board in the second, ending the half down 4-9. The Panthers once again hit a hot streak with an 8-1 run that extended into the fourth. The game ended with a Panther victory, 18-7.
Brayden Mayea led the team with five goals, four assists, and five ground balls.
Collin Hoben narrowly out-hustled Mayea with six ground balls while
Nick Rizzo and
Jack Sawyer secured a hat trick.
Zack Overend spent the first half in the net, securing six saves.
Christopher O'Gradyspent most of the second half as the goalkeeper, during which he registered four saves.
The University of Richmond last hit the field in a game against Hobart University. The Spiders dominated the game in the first half, only giving up two goals while scoring 14 for themselves. Hobart hit a hot streak in the third with four consecutive goals, but Richmond continued to dominate, taking the game 21-8.
High Point played Richmond last year in the Atlantic 10 championship game. After leading 6-3 at the half, the Spiders took the championship, 15-8. High Point has played Richmond 16 times and won four games since the first matchup in 2014.
