‘Who could we hire that would do any better?’

If Mooney was wanted by BC he probably turn it down or get as long of a deal as possible. The guy knows he can't compete at an ACC level. The talent that goes to that league want to play ASAP and not learn some complicated offense.

CBB has become too fluid for a coach like Mooney to handle at P5/6 level. Oh, and that "sophisticated offense" that every game I have to listen to the announcers talk about. The one that the coach can't get a FG from for the final 9 minutes of UR's last game. Maybe it's too complicated, especially for P5/6 players. Mooney will not get off the gravy train until he's throws off.

PS That's right, they got that crucial basket at the end of the game. My bad.

I’ve come to the same conclusion about the offense. When it works, it’s really great! But we spend so much time trying to make the perfect pass and then feeling the pressure of having to make the shot or else knowing that we will give up an immediate defensive rebound that it’s just counterproductive. The reason we never blow out bad teams is because the offense isn’t capable in most cases of stomping on the gas. We have to set up the half court attack, which allows for almost no creativity or spontaneity, or fast breaks. The irony is that we have had the talent to turn up the tempo these past few years, but Mooney doesn’t let them do it. This is the result.

Greg McDermott. Didn't even realize his salary is on par with Mooney's. Yes, I know, the guy is a complete racist. A real POS. Let's make a video about how hurt we were by his words. Wonder if any of them thought about all going into his office to talk face-to-face with him about his speech?

So who would have known the guy has coached at 3 quality problems since the early 2000's and was a racist. Like to hear from some past players either way. I knew he was fiery get-in-your-face coach but never thought a racist. Maybe he deserves what he gets? Hope he can change his ways. These days it seems words count so much more than actions.

JMU isn’t asking that question, that’s for sure.

First-year coach, 10 brand new players, league title.

JMU pays him $450,000/yr. It appears the Dukes recognize a sound ROI better than the brain trust at UR.

Our ROI in MBB is an embarrassment to everyone following the program except the Administration. Screams - frankly, we don't give a damn. Now sit down, shut up, and send us a check.

Think about these expenses in the past decade:
*$17M to renovate the Robins Center
*$15M to Mooney
*$15M for the practice facility
*$4-5M in associated other expenses (assistants’ salaries, chartering flights, etc.)

That’s more than $50 MILLION we have spent. and for no return! No regular season championships or second-place finishes. No tournament championships. No NCAA appearances. No NCAA revenue. No A10 tournament wins against anyone seeded better than us (!). No appearances in the A10 championship game.

Do we think the university administration doesn’t care because all of that money was specifically raised by and ear marked for athletics? Therefore it doesn’t come out of the greater university budget?

It’s safe to say at this point that these aren’t investments, they’re just expenses.

and having this clunky "system" that isn't even proven to be successful (so why run it?) I feel severely limits the recruits we can bring in.

What I don’t understand is that we are a “system team”, yet we don’t seem to recruit to fit that system. They system is designed to get a lot of open shots (a lot of open 3s), yet besides Sherrod - who has been an exceptional 3 point shooter in the recent past? We need a good passing big to help facilitate the offense - we don’t have one on the roster.

Outside of small guards which seems to be our thing, what type of player does this staff want to get? After 16 years, we should be able to answer that. Players with “tremendous fluidity” doesn’t really say much.

The reason I know we can do better is because Loyola Chicago is getting it done and we aren’t. Imagine the publicity that school has been getting the last few years. That could easily be UR.

To be fair, we did finish 2nd last year. A distant second.
