Which loss was worse? Elon or Stony Brook last year?

Both were very surprising losses that never should have happened given our talent level and the two we lost to. In my opinion the stony brook loss was bad but somewhat expected. I didn't think we would necessarily lose that game last year but I did see where a letdown was possible. It was a road game up north which never seem to go well for us. We rebounded and still had a great season which would have been better if we had not suffered such an unbelievable number of costly injuries. I think the Elon loss was far worse. It demonstrated that we can't run or stop the run, which in football are two things you have to be able to do in order to be successful. Our defense apparently is embarrassingly bad and the only bright spot of this team is the passing game. Once again much to the dismay of a lot of y'all I will say that this game showed just how poor our coaching staff is, we were completely unprepared to play and that is the second time this has happened this year. Our team and coaching staff has a chance to show what they are made of the rest of the season based on how they respond to this loss. We have the talent to still win this league and make a deep run in the playoffs but I don't see it based on how we look so unprepared to play so often. That is solely on the coaching staff. We are in for a rough season, especially when we play jmu because we all know they will try to run up the score and put up 80 on us which isn't so far fetched based on how our defense looks.

Which was worse, I don't know to lose a home game in the CAA is not good. The next few games will tell. I didn't expect us to go undefeated in conference but Elon exposed some real weaknesses/deficiencies that I don't know if we can fix.

a team puts 360 yard rushing on you and you can't pick up a 4 and 1 over and over again??? These are real problems.

We can only hope this team improves each week and continues to learn the new schemes. There are more complex issues going on which is evident by close observation. Our defensive approach is much more aggressive this year which brings high risk and at times high reward. We now play aggressive man to man coverage and blitz often. We are also very dependant on our safties for run support and blitzes. This leaves little margin for error and exposure if somebody does not do their job. We are also lacking some personnel on the defense that this scheme could use. On offense, the new staff has previously preferred a dual threat QB who is a weapon as a runner. We have an All American pocket passer who most of us would undoubtedly not trade for any other QB in FCS. We also have a group of wide receivers that are as dangerous as any in the nation and a TE that is All Conference. The staff is still adapting to the personnel we have at this point based on game situations and performance. I have confidence they will make both the strategic and personnel moves to have a successful season. The last two seasons we also had growing pains. Two years ago we were close to a devastating loss at Hampton and last year were on the ropes at Albany but found ways to win. Next Saturday will be a huge game in many ways moving forward.

ya but the difference is that this year we haven't found a way to win.

Damn, VT, UR has played 4 games under new scheme. Please go to Tech board and give their coaching staff your wisdom. Tech has a significant game this weekend and can surely use your help. Russ will plod along without you.

Offense is just fine, after cleaning up turnovers. Lauletta shattering records. Regarding the "D" think we are missing those key playmakers from 2016. Had one on each level WCraig / OHoward / DJones each of these guys getting in a NFL camp. Not sure we have as high level players on current unit (maybe AClyde).
