Play underclass men for next year, Huesman three years: strike one

Nova and UR have identical records(4-4,2-3).

Elon beat host Nova today.

Elon QB threw up Lauletta type numbers today.

If we are healthy and clean up our dopey mistakes,we have more than an even shot v Nova.
Anything is possible, but we're 8 games in and getting worse, not better. I'm not holding my breath expecting us to win a road game in a place we almost never win under normal circumstances.

If you had told me at the beginning of the season that Richmond was going to have a losing season, I would have LMAO.

Now I fear 5-6 might be the best we can do. Shocking for a team that has been to the playoffs three straight years and record setting senior quarterback.

You're deflecting. I saw plenty of fans around me yelling their heads off. None of us dropped a ball or interfered or got stuffed on 3rd and one or misused timeouts or...
Not deflecting at all. You’re section is solid, rest of the place sucks!!

It feels as though we have 2-3 years of rebuild in front of us.Foresee some assistant coaching fallout too at the end of this recruiting season.

Except for JMU and UNH,there is a changing of the guard in the CAA with

Elon,Stony and UD power shift away from UR,Nova,WM.

URI,Maine has shown improvement.UA as well as Towson, not so much.

32--WM has a "beamer" problem. Laycock needs to go, but its hard to replace a legend, except on his terms.

I agree and that puts all the more urgency on pur new locker room, weight room and medical facilities.

Mo, agree. Moreover, emphasis needs to be put on upgrading the facilities for basketball as well, including the construction of a practice facility. My opinion on these issues has changed since talking with coaches who tell me the lack of these upgrades cost a lot in terms of recruiting. We need an AD with charisma who can/will get it done.

Ulla, I would love to see millheiser renovated and it become the basketball practice facility. We are going to need a football building at some point. In the meantime, anyone know how the “move the chains” campaign is going? When are the renovations of the football locker room and weight room scheduled to begin?

I was told that the construction should start at the end of the football season but have been disappointed and confused by a lack of an announcement.

Russ is a great coach. He was when he put together the D that won us a National Championship, he was when he built the Chattanooga program up from NOTHING.

With the way everything went down last year, the transition and everything around the program, things have obviously fallen FAR short of expectations. This isn't some rookie coach who has no idea what he's doing. We will need to make some off-season changes but as fans, we need to temper our disappointment and stay behind the team and staff.

Watching the replay today. Good news is we have some younger guys making a bunch of tackles on defense. Wiggins, Jackson, and Rubin stood out to me in the first quarter. All back next year.

^^Our run D has been very improved since Elon. Holding up against the run yesterday without Waller was a great sign. Definitely some emerging talent on the D.

No doubt Russ was a great D coordinator but he was blessed with 2 great D ends and excellent personnel elsewhere. He was a very good head coach at UTC, but this is a different league. Not ready to say he is inept or an "idiot" but must make coaching changes. Staff makes poor, if any, in-game adjustments and lack of tackling, pass coverage and blocking skills are damning to coaching techniques. Think UR is lacking in size for players and coaching skills for staff. Expect to see changes in both

If we're lacking for size in players--that is a problem that Rocco and staff created. Plus, I'm not convinced this year goes fabulously better for Rocco and staff if he was still here.

If you're going to blame Rocco then you need to blame Huesman for the 2 7 Mocs Spider were considered top flight team by poll and conference voters. Just hope we can go 6-5 this season. Plus give Mancuso some snaps as well as other under class men

How can you square these two statements consecutively? Are we trying to win or are we building for the future?

Recruiting:Full speed ahead.

When Russ was last here in 2008,the makeup of our roster was considerably different than it is today.

We had considerably more size on both sides of the ball.We weren’t being pushed around by anyone.

I think difference is experience of the 2008 team vs 2017. The 2008 DL had 4 guys all 6'3 265 across
the front but all juniors and seniors. The OL of 2008 was a seasoned group also but had Vaughn and
Hightower earlier running behind them in power run game, not out of spread. Yesterday's CAA radio show,
Huesman indicated that his current OL is young and not powerful. "Don't knock people off the ball". But
I bet there is going to be some serious strength training in off season. Other key he mentioned was that
he does not run Kyle which puts more pressure on RBs and line.

Both but building for the future now becomes a part of the equation if we were still in the playoff hunt playing for the future would not be any consideration. It is not an all or nothing proposition

As I see it, either our Walter Payton award candidate is playing quarterback or an unproven yet promising freshman is playing. Where is there middle ground on that?

It's not either or give Mancuso some series

It’s why we have 2-3 years of rebuilding the OL and DL.We don’t have the horses to fit the schemes that Russ wants. Our future RBs likely will be heavier and sturdier. Our staff better be able to recruit as a priority or 2-3 years won’t be enough time to right the ship.Russ’
last recruiting class was put together in less than 1.5 months with his mid-Dec hire-quite and accomplishment but likely he was left with some missing parts because of the short recruiting window.Russ’ coaching staff better be up to the task.On the coaching front,Durden should decide whether he’s staying or going after the recruiting cycle.Russ needs to take a deep dive look at his staff as to who does or doesn’t make the cut for 2018.
