We are fortunate to have D1 Football. In 1979 it was on life support.
We are one of the smallest D1 Football Schools in the nation.
Our D1 Football program has a National Championship.
We have a bowl win 1968 Tangerine Bowl.
We have a beautiful stadium on campus we can really call home.

Barry Redden should get a lot of credit for saving football at UR in the early eighties. He beat Va Tech by himself.

It is my understanding without Robins $$$ the football program would have gone belly up in "79.
True he started a matching endowment around 76 I don't recall the amount but now that endowment is pushing 90 million. This was over and above the 50 million gift and many other Robin's family gifts since

Also I believe VMI and a couple of other schools in DI were smaller, but not many.

Presbyterian (Blue Hose) and Davidson (Wildcats) are smaller than UR.

In 1966 we had the longest loosing streak in the nation until a D-1 school came to town.
That was Davidson.
We used to say, "There the Spiders are. They are outstanding and they are mild." Second, we said, "Win, lose or draw, we will drink to it. Roll Spide! OSC
