Is it a hopeless dream of an old man, that I want to see UR in the final championship? Maybe, next year?

Not a hopeless dream, things will be changing in the next few years. OSC

I think we all have the same dream. Odds are against it happening in any of our lifetimes. But anything is possible. There's no reason we can't aspire to it. Teams from our league have won national championships, played for them and gotten to Final Fours and Elite Eights. No reason we can't, one day.

Rooting for Nova, I've always hated UNC. At least Nova plays in the same football conference as UR.

Former Spider target Kris Jenkins wins the national championship for Villanova. Twist the knife.

That group of nova kids played their tails off on defense. Great game.

Local DC product from Gonzaga College High School always had his sights on Nova or X,never UR.Sorry.If he is counted as one who got away,it's a miscount.

I agree that a consensus 4 star player ranked in the 70s was looking for more. But it does look like us, GMU and VT offered before his junior year (12/11). Most of the heavy hitters after (4/12).

That was Larranaga's first year. And Nova was 13-19 that year.

With Cedrick Lindsay at UR,intention was to have teammate from Gonzaga tag along. Was never gonna happen.

Remember Kris very well and, yes, the Spiders were among the favorites for him. OSC

Happy for Nova -- shows a small private school can win it all AND keep their strong academic reputation, hope springs eternal. Loved Nova's pressure D, guards were extremely QUICK, and power players inside to keep UNC honest. Great formula on the D side -- on O great ball movement, score inside and out. Tough combination to defend against.

The play setting up Kris Jenkins for the game winning shot reminded me so much of Cedrick Lindsay setting up Darien Brothers for the game tying shot against vdu. It was very similar with the Villanova guard (Ryan D.) bringing the ball up the left side of the court then going to the right to screen for then pass to Kris for the open shot. Great play. Exciting ending. OSC

Completely different play run but both were 3's from right side.Well executed play with 4.7 sec left.Ochefu set a very nice screen that popped Arcidiacono on the sideline inbounds play.Jenkins was the 2nd choice to shoot on the play which was read perfectly by Arcidiacono

couldn't believe Jenkins got that clean a lot going full court in 4.7 seconds. I respect Roy Williams, but how do you not deny Arcidiacono on the inbounds. let the ball go to Ochefu, not the PG that Nova wants with the ball.

Good point Spiderman, but I think Roy was also scared of fouling since the Refs were for most part in the second half, whistle happy. Also Archi was good
at drawing fouls. Point on comparing Brothers shot with Jenkins, Ced had about 12 seconds to work with if I remember and Nova 4.7 seconds. The actual shot
that was amazing was Page's 3 which was contested and he actually altered his shot to get it off. That was a miracle shot.

yeah, I thought the refs were pretty bad. and yes, mostly against UNC. but as a coach, I'll bet heavily that unless you murder someone the ref will swallow his whistle in the final 5 seconds. they don't want to be blamed for deciding a game.

and yes, Paige's shot was ridiculous!

Page's shot was luck but hey it went in. And yes, UNC fans were crying like little school girls about the officiating, as losing teams often do. The refs called a close game if UNC kept there hands off of Nova players they wouldn't have been called for so many fouls.

As for the final play, you have to deny Arch the ball, they let him have it far too easily, after that you knew Nova was going to get a good look.

low percentage because he adjusted, but not luck to me. he's focused on the rim in that picture and "shot" the ball where he wanted it to go. heck of a shot in a big spot.
refs? I don't know. lot of contact the other way a few times not called. that non-call with a few seconds left in the half and the resulting 3 pointer the other way was a game changer. calls on Meeks were very questionable. it all went against UNC.
I agree on denying Archie. Think they just didn't want him catching the ball with a running start, but I double him and let the ball go to Ochefu. he'll pass back to Jenkins, which is fine.

I was wanting UNC to lose, but........it looked like the officiating was heavily skewed Villanova's way. The definition of a foul was different on each end of the court. The Villanova big man was going through people on block attempts and knocking them completely down but no calls. The worst offenders though, were the Villanova guards. They got to push off with their off hand and create space all game long, particularly Archie. But that was a foul when the UNC guards were doing it. It reminded me of the 2005 UNC Championship run when they got perfect officiating every game that year. If they needed a loosely called game, they got it. If they played a big, phycial team, then they magically got a tightly called game.

Well, I was wanting UNC to lose (and actively rooting for Nova, because of the Philly connection and the fact that they just are a fun team to watch play), so my lens was probably skewed a bit on the foul situation. Nova made big plays all tournament long and that is what made them so fun to watch. Honestly, you kind of expected them to hit the game winner because they have been doing that all tournament.

yeah, pretty fun team. a real college team. no super future NBA all-stars. and like you, I knew Jenkins' shot was good before it left his hand. love his quote about what he thought when he got the pass. "ball game".

How many players on the starting 10 were from Maryland? Four I think. I know Nova started 3 Marylanders.
It doesn't seem to matter that Uof R is only 100 miles away, and Cedric was one of our best players in years,
we have no real recruiting going on here, in Maryland. What's that about?

The Goldens are at St. James in Hagerstown.

We were also in early on a couple of 2017 studs from MD, but haven't seen us mentioned much with them since the big boys started getting involved.

School is Hagerstown, I believe home is Winchester.

Agree, huge coaching error to not guard the inbounds man. Hard to make a perfect half court pass with a 6'10" player a foot in front of you.
