Was that the loudest you ever heard the RC?

Been to almost every home BB game in the Mooney era. That's the loudest I recall ever hearing the RC. Anybody have a memory of it being louder?

No, I've been attending for years and mentioned the same thing to a friend. It was never that loud for that long (throughout the entire game). I think there's more room to get it even louder. At least 50% of the noise came from the student section. Students were great!

Hard to be louder than it was when we beat David Robinson (Navy) and could not sit down the whole game, or when Brothers hit his huge 3 pointer to tie VCU 2 years ago. However it was loud and fun Wednesday night. Loved it.

We went on a 7-0 run to push the lead to 22-10 on Wednesday night, capped by a bucket by TJ. The noise at that moment when Shaka called timeout was pretty freaking awesome.

Loudest RC game ever in my memory was the 1990 OT win over VA Tech. The original KA (Kenny Atkinson) vs Bimbo Coles. The place was absolutely packed, and it was loud and rowdy.

Wednesday was pretty close, though...

Probably last year when we beat St. Joe's and pumped in all the artificial crowd noise was the loudest.

Mo, at that timeout when TJ screamed into the crowd and the crowd gave it back ... that might be my favorite non-game winning moment of the season.

The 2011 trouncing of RPI was loud too. Even though that game was over from the opening tip, it was a mad house in the RC.

To be honest with you, there's a part of me that lives for the Spider-run induced Shaka Smart timeout in the Robins Center.

The new renovation makes the place so much louder than it ever was before.

That first half against RPI was probably my favorite moment in the RC. We completely took them to the wood shed, Kevin Smith had a couple highlight real dunks. It was absolute domination and humiliation.

The game 2 years ago when Brother's hit the shot to send into OT was pretty sweet as well.

There was also a game in 2011 against GW that pretty much sewed up an at large for us that I thought was pretty loud. Kevin Smith stole a pass near the end of the game and had this classic K. Smith poster dunk. Place went nuts.

I've got another Va Tech game that was loud. 1973 we beat a rank Tech team in double OT. Ray Amman tip in to win. the place was at capacity with the full array of seats, every student seat taken people sitting on the steps. The loss put Tech into the NIT vs the NCAA back when the number of invites was half of what it is today (24). Tech went on to win the NIT. They won 4 games by a total of 5 points. One of, if not the craziest streaks I've ever seen. But that UR game was deafening.

^^^^^

One of the two or three greatest games I have ever seen. "Dueling Banjos" and the crowd went nuts. And VPI's cheerleaders made ours look like nuns.

Totally agree that the renovation has improved acoustics plus the video boards booming out noise. Game when we beat David Robinson and Navy was packed out with constant cheering by the then 9123 capacity was probably the loudest from spectator noise and this one was probably the loudest overall.

I was just a young kid, but I remember one of the Georgia Tech games, probably like 1989 or 90 being really loud. I believe GT was highly ranked and led by Kenny Anderson. Chris Fleming made a last second shot to win it for the Spiders.

That Georgia Tech game was 1990, my first UR game ever, and yes Springer laid in a late put back for the win and the students stormed the court. Great into to Richmond basketball during my freshman year. From the AP:

"When an unranked team beats Georgia Tech, it's usually considered an upset. For Richmond, beating the Yellow Jackets is becoming a habit.
The Spiders continued their winning ways over 14th-ranked Georgia Tech in a 73-71 victory Saturday night at Richmond, Va.
It was the Spiders' fourth victory over Tech in five years, and it gave Richmond a 4-3 edge in the series, which began in 1985.
Jim Springer's rebound and layin with three seconds left was the decisive basket for Richmond.
Kenny Anderson led Georgia Tech with 25 points.
After Anderson missed a shot that would have given Georgia Tech the lead with 39 seconds left, Richmond got the ball, ran the clock down to 12 seconds and called a timeout.
Richmond set up a jump shot for guard Curtis Blair, but when he missed, the 6-foot-8 Springer grabbed the rebound in the lane and scored the Spiders' lone basket in the final five minutes."

That 2OT win over VT in1973 was UR's first "upset" win in Robins Center history! In the prior meeting with The Gobblers that season we were waxed in Blacksburg by something like 30 points. I recall Tech fans coming into the RC that night crowing that Tech would stomp "that little Baptist School" again. I remember UR's Carlton Mack "C Man" stealing the ball and making a lay up that either tied the game or put us ahead I also recall the "Eye Candy", The Tech cheerleaders in their hot pants! Also in 1973 the RC capacity was 10,000. It was packed!

The record for most 3 pointers in a game by a Spider in the Robins Center is 8 and achieved by both Darien Brothers vs Charlotte (1/19/13) and Chris Fleming vs. Georgia Tech (12/1/90)

Boy - you guys have brought back some awesome memories of a LOUD Robins Center :

1 - The game vs. VPI where Bimbo Coles thought he had it won, until the referee saw that Ken Atkinson had slid over so that Bimbo actually had to dribble the ball out of bounds to get around Ken. Still one of the best, and most timely, defensive plays in RC history.

2 - When Chris Fleming came off the bench to score 24 vs. Ga. Tech in the game where Springer put back that last shot, the crowd was awesome. Friends of mine who listened to it on the radio said that the cheer at the end was unbelievable. Frank Soden didn't even have to make the call.

3 - The game where we beat David Robinson and Navy was the one where they sold standing-room-only tickets. If memory serves correctly, we had over 9,600 that night. That crowd with the extra bodies was really loud.

4 - Darrien's 28-footer against VDU two years ago stands out to me as the time I thought the roof would blow off the RC.

The thing I took away from Wednesday's game was the awesome percentage of the game where the place was really rocking. Never have I heard an RC crowd get so loud as to sound like one giant buzz sound for so long so many times. That was truly a game for the ages. God bless the players for getting it done early and often - and for never quitting.

Great list Stork, I remember having to stand up that whole game against David Robinson & Navy in 86'. Think we won about 67 to 61 after we "stopped" David for 26 points. Lol. He wasn't quite as good as Ralph Sampson in college, but pretty dang close.

Stork I had forgotten about the standing room only tickets for that Navy David Robinson game. Think that crowd led to some discussions about fire marshal regulations and was the biggest crowd in the history of the Robins Center. Just as a side note about David Robinson he was and is quite a gentleman. The following year in a game at Robins that Navy won easily I was driving to the game and we saw the Navy bus and my then 8 year old son told me how much he wanted to get David Robinson's autograph. We managed to get to Robins before the Navy bus and my son and I went over to the door where the players were getting off the bus. We stood to the side until David was walking down the bus steps and he was most kind and polite in his willingness to provide an autograph. Think my son still has it.

VCU when Brothers drained that 30 footer is the loudest I ever heard the place at one point. This past game is the most Buzz throughout a game I have heard. Had a friend who grew up a UNC fan and has been to some Duke UNC games and said this is every bit as electric. Also noticed we hardly played the make noise graphic on the big board. Kudos to the rowdies for bringing the noise.
