In Coach Huesmans spring letter he said...
"We will work on punt protection and coverage but since we know the true freshman is going to be punting we just won't have anyone physically punting during spring practice."

We don't have a backup plan?

Well, Huesman also said this week that they just don't have the bodies to do live scrimmaging, and some other things they want to do. Guess this is one of those activities.

I fear that he is putting all his punting eggs in one basket. Just like Rocco did.....

I wouldn't be opposed to more rugby style punting. Now, you still have to protect the punter but it takes away the threat of the big return and the weird bounces often times cause issues for returners and the right bounce can really flip field position. Based on past experiences I'm not as confident we can have a punter stand back there, be protected, and consistently boom 50 + yarders but I've been wrong before.

one thing rocco did right from the beginning, he got our numbers up and hope that Russ can keep that going, a must if the program is going to be successful long term.

Should be ok, the freshman punts right or left leg, so we get two for one.
Funny, obviously if one leg gets injured it's all over for the other one. I can't believe they are experimenting with a B plan.

Plan B: #neverpunt
Reminds me of the Army SDSU game, most peculiar game I've every watched. No punts either team. Army could not stop the Aztecs or Penny, so they simply had its run game grind it out and ate up clock, went for it on virtually every 4th down. Army won 42 35

I was only half-joking. It's a valid strategy.

Girls,

Army didn’t complete a pass last year v Fordham and ran for over 500 yards.Triple Option ran to perfection early season against an extremely porous defense. No need to punt or pass when competition defense stinks.

Maybe we’ll have same luck at Brickhouse in Game 3.

Against SDSU,Black Knights controlled clock 46 v 14 mins and had 31 v 11-1st downs. No punts and USMA threw for a total of 6 yards on 4 attempts.

Knute Rockne would be proud.

You would think we could find someone from the soccer team to punt as a plan B. Oh wait, we don't have men's soccer anymore at UR :-(

high school coach down here who never punts, no matter the distance or field location, he goes for it and he wins most, if not all, his games. of course, he has a very good team every year but find his deal pretty neat.

Web I was just thinking about him. Saw a segment on TV. I think he made the remark- why do we want to give the other team the ball if we don't have to? LOL. I'm pretty sure he was kidding, but maybe only slightly.
