It's time to devote a separate thread for VCU. ESPN favors BYU by 3. This will be a tough game for VCU. It would be best for the conference if VCU won. VCU is very good this year, BYU matches up well.

Go Cougars. I don't have the visceral hatred I did for VCU years ago, as they just run a really good program now. But I'll be damned if I'm going to root for them to make a run in the NCAA's.

This game will be a fight. VCU is very physical. BYU will look to shut down Shulga and force the rest of the VCU team to beat them. VCU is pretty deep. Does anyone know anything about BYU?

They can light it up on the scoreboard from 3. They beat Iowa State twice, Kansas, and Arizona all in the past month. It should be a really good game, it certainly isn't a friendly draw for VCU in my estimation.

A team that can score a lot is not a great matchup for vcu because it means Bamisile will feel the need to just start jacking threes from all over the court. They do rebound well on the offensive end, but they definitely aren't going to win an 88-80 kind of game.

I agree, but YOU had to say it…

Looks like they weren't listening to me. Tsk tsk.

Not sure if they would have won anyway, but I do think that when it is known that your coach is on his way out of town it impacts the team. You can say whatever you want, but I think it impacts the spirit of the team. And yes I know, half the players are negotiating with other schools too.
"I completely agree."

Well in this case, Wade was hyping his team up with visions of ACC money and very transparent. It's all situational. I have given up on VCU botching the hire. Whereas we have proven to not care and ride the long descending moon game, they do care and probably have some great candidates lined up.

No doubt VCU has established a winning tradition of getting winning coaches and regularly going to NCAA tourney over the last 20 years. And us?

I don't think VCU losing had much to do with Odom. BYU is a really good team who was coming in hot to the tournament. They also exposed VCU's lack of a quality big man all night long. Shulga pulled a Mooney after winning the A-10 POY award and did a no show in A-10 tournament and NCAA game. So sad.

They definitely get there more often than we do, but I do find their last 9 results in the tournament pretty delicious:
• 2014 - Blew the game by fouling a three-point shooter against #12 seed Stephen F Austin, then lost in OT as the 5 seed.
• 2015 - Another soul-crushing OT loss as a higher seed (7) vs. 10-seed Ohio State.
• 2016 - Their only win in these 10 games (by eight as a 10 seed over 7-seed Oregon State) before a loss to 2-seed Oklahoma.
• 2017 - Beaten handily as a 10-seed by St. Mary's.
• 2019 - Stomped by 15 as an 8-seed by 9-seed UCF.
• 2021 - Forfeited as a 10-seed against 7-seed Oregon because of covid.
• 2023 - Stomped again by St. Mary's, this time as a 12-seed.
• 2025 - Beat down by BYU.

Great list Eight. The 2014 game was the best, they had that game won and then Lewis fouled a guy hitting a 3 point shooter down by 4. They literally could have just let him hit the 3 and they win, but nope. Maybe they snuck Mooney into their last time out or something.
