VCU to AAC?

makes a ton of sense. better fit for their school profile with all the bigger public schools.
unfortunate that it weakens the A10, but at least we'd get a good OOC game.

FAU and Memphis are solid, but after that the AAC is nothing to write home about compared to the A-10. Agree it's a better institutional fit for them though. Only ECU, Temple, and Charlotte are drivable.

And if I'm the A-10, I tell them to GTFO with the rest of their sports if they want to move their basketball program.

Yes, A-10 needs to play hardball if they are thinking of leaving. I personally don't care if they stay, yes, they are good for the league, but they are VCU so would rather them be in some other league.

Yes, its a cluster now. How do you have any idea the conference you are moving to will look anything like it does today in two years? Thats not stopping anything, but its just a weird spot. SDSU fans were clamoring for the PAC 12 for the last year, and started to make a move. If they were succesfull they would be in the PAC 3 :).

really doubt this one happens .. can't see them making basically a lateral move even with the challenges of the A10 - still expect us to wake up one morning and see they are headed to the Big East with probably Dayton at the same time

They seem to think that even with just basketball not football that the tv revenue will be 10 times current?

Smu is leaving. Memphis will be on the way out as soon as they get a better offer. Maybe more money, but FAU was a one or 2 hit wonder. The rest of the AAC sucks.

Believe the question is how does it advance your program? You have established yourselves as a near perennial participant in the Dance.

Do bragging rights from a snapshot view of 7 v 11 conference rankings offset the significant increased travel costs in a far flung conference in which you have no natural rivalries? If TV money offsets this, go for it. Not sure you will be happy.

Careful what you wish for. Don’t want this to affect the stability of our league. Also, who do we get to replace them? Most likely some poor academic school or one full of crazies like Liberty.
Or maybe don’t replace them unless there’s a really good candidate.

(Liberty of course isn’t an option anyway given they’re FBS with a home in C-USA now.)

Yeah, with Houston at #4.
And, Cincinnati 45 and UCF 64. So, now, without them, you have to go all the way down to 94 (Wichita St.) to find the 2nd highest rated team from last year (Memphis is at 17).

To be fair though, you should add in #31 FAU, #47 North Texas, and #53 UAB (plus #115 Charlotte, #207 Rice, and #277 UTSA).

There are certainly some decent programs in the new AAC, especially compared to a down A-10, but overall it’s not a major upgrade and you’ve put yourself in a situation where football is driving the bus and you don’t offer it.

Boot Lasalle.
Duquesne is mostly dead weight. Boot them.
Give Fordham a couple tears to see if they can maintain but also demand that they improve infrastructure so that they can keep a coach. Otherwise, boot them.
Also, boot Lasalle again.

Could be a ruse but I doubt it - Quote from VCU AD from RTD paywall article .. “The reports that we have engaged in ‘serious discussions’ with the American Athletic Conference have no merit," McLaughlin said on Thursday.
"I can understand why another conference would have interest in bringing VCU into its membership, given our broad-based championship success and our national brand. We will continue to monitor the national landscape of conference realignment.”"

McLaughlin's ego knows no bounds.
