VCU Loss - UR window

Hyland going off like that was the main reason they beat us last time. I’m bodying that guy hard every second he’s in the game. He might break in half. And then I’m forcing them to go inside — same thing they did against us last time. And I’m fouling Santos-Silva a ton. He’s like 57% from the line.

Deny easy threes for them and we win. It’s as simple as that.

I'm grateful for a poster like Austin who is transparent about his dual role, has a sense of humor, and doesn't bristle at every legit criticism of the team.

Normally I would say the injury to Evans on VCU might have an impact, but to be honest - he has been a major disappointment for them this year. He has dropped in just about every statistical category for them, and has been wildly inconsistent. VCU has made up for this with great bench play and the emergence of Santos-Silva.
Last game - VCU shot lights out (just about 50% overall and 50% from 3) - so I would not expect that to happen again. Biggest difference last time was the 2nd half, they made some adjustments with their ball screens and line-up in the 2nd half and we didn't. They pulled away and we could never get close. Not to mention - Bones had a career night.
With all that said - I think this game with or without Evans will be pretty even. One question I did have is I wonder if Mooney will at some point this season step away from the load management on Grant for certain games down the stretch. We just get little to nothing other than 5 fouls out of Grace and Sal - and I could see this as a game where maybe you press his minutes to 33-35 this game? And possibly some upcoming games down the stretch that are very important to the NCAA resume.

The last game that Evans didn’t play was the Bonnies...

I would almost put Tyler on Hyland and Grace/ Koressi on Santos -Silva. I would tell Grace and Koressi to not let SS take a free shot.

Santos-Silva is probably a first team all A-10 player. He would eat Grace and Sal alive if they had to guard him for significant period of time. SS would just bully them in the paint. Sal is too slight of build and Grace too passive. Grant will need to D him up. Yes, I suppose they could hack a Shaq him, but that is not Mooney's style.

And Hyland is a PG, so I don't think putting a forward in Tyler on a PG is a wise decision either. It will be upon Blake and Andre to guard him. I actually thought Andre played him pretty decently last time, Hyland just got really hot and hit some deep threes over him. I do worry about Blake trying to guard him because he does have a significant height advantage over him.

G, I don't think VCU will be favored tomorrow.

If Evans is out that may be worth a pt or 2. Wrote that not knowing his injury. But we'll see, either way it would just a small fav. I kinda still think it will be VCU. Vegas probably realizes VCU will be the more popular bet. I mean if you're the betting public do you go with 6-19 or 19-6. And even as a UR fan I have ton of questions if Mooney can get his team mentally prepared for this game.

If Evans is out, I think it helps us IF Mooney commits to keeping a guy in Bones' shorts all night. Evans has struggled but he's a good leader in a rivalry game like this and had a decent game in the last matchup.

Agree with other posters -- we can't give them opens looks from 3. That's how they defended us last game -- they let Grant score all he wanted but didn't give us open looks. I don't care if Santos-Silva scores 25 -- if they can't get Bones and Jenkins looks from 3, they won't be able to keep up. If they shoot 35%+ from 3 again, we're in trouble.

Evans went out with just over 4 minutes left in the Mason game. He had been playing with a strained MCL, which he probably aggravated. It is doubtful he will play against us. Hyland took his place.

They'll miss Evans on defense, but they may be a better offensive team with Bones getting big minutes this year
Yeah, this. Evans played very good defense against us last time and was a big reason why Jacob has a bad game. I'd rather they be without him on defense, plus Hyland isn't used to playing 35 minutes a game. If he has to tomorrow, let's wear him out.

I am saying the only game he completely missed was against the Bonnie’s. VCU won 91-63...

u r right Chop. UR -1. Possible the Evans injury did swing it by a pt or two - although has he actually been ruled out? I have no idea.
Last I heard, he was expected to play, although I have no insight other than what has been made public.
