UR- St. Francis In Game

Ram Nation is very impressed that you were finally able to squeak by something called St. Francis. At home. In front of half a stadium. In a tournament that nobody cares about.

Way to go little brother.

Now step aside and watch the big boys play.

Ban the trolls.

Nice job by our guys to get a W when Kendall Wasn't at his best.

I actually thought the crowd was pretty solid, given the opponent and the quick turnaround. I saw zero RPI fans there if that was a serious question.

Josh Jones was pretty impressive tonight. He showed he can be more than a 3 point shooter. Hopefully he continues showing his offensive skills through the rest of the NIT and into next season.

NEWURFAN: TJ had 2 fouls early in the first half, after a few minutes. At the rate he was going, he would have fouled out after 5 minutes.

I remember we beat ASU on the road a few years ago. I guess, we could consider Sunday's game, as the second part of a home and away series.

If we had that many in attendance for a non-brand name team on on Wednesday, I'll be shocked if we don't sell out ASU. Under the circumstances, I was pleasantly surprised with the crowd energy. Good job fans.

That's pretty funny from the Ram Nation poster. How did my yard guy figure out how to get on the spider board?

Spiders Unite, are you talking about the so called "big boys" that Richmond BEAT 2 out of 3 times this year? Are these the same "big boys" that are going to get the snot beat out of them by the Big Ten Ohio State Buckeyes tomorrow afternoon?

The best line for Josh Jones was 0-0 from 3 point land. Too many times this year, the only offense he would attempt was a 3 point shot. I think he has potential if he can become a more confident offensive player from other places besides the 3 point line.

Stonewalling save it....other players had two fouls still played more minutes..with the game JJ was having why not keep him in for TJ if that's your case. Simple saying we squeezed out when we could have played down the hammer making a huge statement.. Now we just got a win in some eyes.

Mooney said post game that he wished he played Josh more looking at the minutes. I think he needs to leave hot hands and team chemistry in and feel out the game instead of a rote substitution pattern like we have. I guess that's the way it is and players know they are coming out regardless. Mooney also mentioned he thought the crowd was good and that he watched two NIT games last night which had much worse support. I bet you one of them was the Miami game, place looked like a morgue.

By "big boys," I mean to indicate the team that leads the VCU-ur rivalry 46-28. This is also the only team in the state of Virginia that has made the NCAA tournament five years in a row. If you've watched the Final 4 in recent years, you know exactly who I'm talking about.

Think there was even more subbing in this game due to the physical play and bad officiating. With all the whistles, CM knew he could start running out of guys soon, and simply playing this type of game saps more energy as well. Good to see us score over 80 even with Kendall having an off night. And our D wasn't as effective but with only 2 days prep against a team you've never played, and that they're a team similar to URI, the lapses should probably be expected. Good to see Zo get more into the flow this game and loved that dunk and "stare down" of the guy who had been on his and TJ's backs all night.

That goes against all basketball logic. Cline played no more after 10 minutes in the first half. At that point he had 7 points. He came out because Mooney wanted to preserve him for the 2nd half. If he had stayed in and fouled out, he would have contributed even less.

The only players Mooney plays when they have a bunch of fouls early are Deion and Trey, and that is because Mooney is OK with them fouling out over some of our other players fouling out. The reason Mooney sits TJ when he gets in foul trouble is because he values him more than some of the other players.

Teams that play that physical style give us trouble. We played well enough to advance and thats what its all about. It was great to have ANO out there at the end of the game. He really dominated the last couple possessions SFC had. Its always tough to beat a team full of juniors and seniors. I agree with Mo. Given the opponent and short turn around, I thought the crowd was good and into the game. On to the Sun Devils.

Josh had a great game. He showed his athleticism on the breakaway dunk and on another play where he was fouled while skying to the rim. He is VERY athletic! He could turn out to be a very good one. The crowd was great; much larger than crowds I have seen at the early NCAA tournament games, probably 4,500. But hey, you can tune in to Tru TV (whatever that is?) for the NCAA or watch the NIT on the ESPN channels.

ANO was our second leading scorer with 14 points, and he also added 5 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals and an assist. All in just 25 minutes. I think he isn't even fully back yet. He has made some great aggressive moves both in this game and the VCU game. He adds a lot to the team, can't believe some people here thought his absence was an improvement.

Zo saved our bacon tonight, great game, especially when the game was on the line. TA could have scored 30 if we got him the ball inside more, they had no answer. Best game JJ has played. K0 was struggling tonight but scored when it was crunch time. They were a very aggressive and very good rebounding team. When 1 got hot at the end he almost pulled out the win. Some of his shots looked NBA length with a hand in his face. Refs were letting them push off to create offensive position most of the night and then calling a touch foul, we did not adjust well. Must do better against physical teams.

St fracis was scrappy, they played hard. Win and advance

I think my favorite play of the game was the drive and dunk by ZO. It was like he was saying "I'm back and I'm strong". He was a factor tonight. Really happy for him.

Line was 11, won by 10. Those guys know what they're doing usually.

I thought we took what they gave us and mostly scored at will. Defense was kinda off, not sure quite why.

SFb came to play. Didn't shoot great but got better in second half.

Was great to see Zo be decisive going to the rack.

Good win against a team that gave us their best shot. What stood out to me was the feeling of our guys coming out with a different attitude, especially in the first half. It felt like a combination of being pissed off/swagger/confidence. Whatever it was, I liked it, especially in the paint.

64, agree that was a great move and dunk by Zo. Loved the evil stare down he gave the defender, too. He was just sick of that guy being on his back, holding him and TJ, etc. Kinda wish TA, Zo and all these guys would come out more with a little anger like this but certainly helped that the game plan was to attack the paint and rim, ball screens, pick 'n rolls, etc. And it obviously worked against SF. Will be interesting to see what they come up with for AZST

A couple of the best dunks we've seen all year from the Spids happened last night. Any sports center sightings? Commentary guy said possibly worthy

JJ has nice athletic skills, and he showed it last night. I like the fact that he can do the things he showed last night, and he can shoot from 3 point land. A multidimensional player alwasys opens up things - kind of like TJ.

Zo does not have his legs yet as his timing at times was off, but there were moments. Maybe the
most physical game this year as saw frustration on faces of all our guys at times. We must have stolen or secured
a good defensive rebound 4 or 5 times only to have SF steal it or knock out of our hands. Between that
and missed FTs we could have had a lot more breathing room.

Yes, ESPN showed Josh's dunk last night. Called it "Jones to Jones" !!! I like "The Jones Boys" from Indiana Jones movie.

Really liked how JJ looked hitting that midrange jumper with hand in his face. Huge ups with a quick smooth stroke. Watch out, sports fans!

We played our best basketball of the season after his injury. 6 wins in a row over some pretty good teams. Deion Taylor really stepped up his defensive game when ANO went down and I think that was the difference. Now that ANO is back, Deion has reverted to form on the defensive end, which is generally vastly overrated.

ANO's ability to block shots is great but our defense became to reliant on him being back there instead of holding D'ing up there man and not letting him to the rim.

I agree he adds a lot to the team and glad he is back, but certain guys we're able to better define their roles when he went down and step up there game.

ANO had a great game last name but the key for him is to be consistently good, which he has yet to show, that he can bring that type of game night in and night out. I think we see that next year.

Yes - that was great play - had me singing an old song that some of you may remember - Along Came Jones by The Coasters. Great seeing Josh Jones and the enthusiasm - that was a dynamite play.

Have to disagree with you on Deion reverting to old ways, whatever that is. ANO has been back one game and you make that assessment. Deion played good defense last night. Give SFC some credit for attacking the backside of our defense. We overplay and often double the strong side and they hit us on the backside several times especially under the basket.

lots of great plays in this one, but my play of the game was the Kendall crossover / finger roll down the lane with 2:00 left. he didn't have a good game by his shooting standards, but that was a big time move at a big time in the game.

It is a small sample size, I agree. Deion made impact plays on defense in ANO's absence and since his return his impact plays have been much less. I did see him get beat pretty bad in key situations last night and against VCU though.

Agree. I noticed it too in the VCU game & last night. I doubt if it is coincidence based upon return of ANO. I think it's more just how a player plays. He did play good defense during ANO's absence.

Let it be known that we all pull for DT, but facts are not opinions neither on offense nor defense.

I went to the game. It looked like, Coach M found matchup advantages and thus we saw Terry Allen taking his man to the rack time and again. Also, the overall plan looked like- attack the basket. Three point shots were not a priority.

I also noticed that ANO didn't have his 100% game legs, but his effort was great! He seemed to struggle with receiving passes with those goggles. But, when it came to free-throws, he would remove the goggles- and he did great from the line!

Let's Go Spiders!

ANO came out several times looking for air. He was tired and had a few turnovers , but came up big in the end on defense and MADE his free throws. DT made one little jump hook about 3 feet from the basket. I don't mind him taking that shot at all. Trey needs to slash to the basket for a layup or short fade away to keep the defense honest. TD took no shots!!! Remember folks, this game was a slug fest. They ran 11 or 12 guys at us with the intent to bang and foul.
