Just looked it over and, I really don't know. We need some wins with a young team, I'm not sure they are there. VMI, Bucknel, Hampton, UMBC, maybe Oral Roberts after that I don't know. Any
thoughts?

Its an ok schedule. Not great, not terrible. It's a miss not maxing out the OOC slate as others have mentioned.

All of my comments are unrelated to whether or not our experience level is aligned with the schedule strength.

Our OOC schedule is much easier than last years, I expect at least as many wins. Oral Roberts had a losing record in the Summit League last year, they are pretty bad, not sure why you think we won't win that game. Robert Morris is bad too, and we get them at home. The only two games I see on the schedule that we should be the underdog in are the Maryland and Texas Tech games. Depending on how things go, we may actually be favored in 11 of our 12 OOC games since we get Texas Tech at home.

VMI - W
ODU - W
Robert Morris - W
Hampton - W
Maryland - L
Boston College - W
Bucknell - W
Wake - W
UMBC - W
Texas Tech - L
JMU - W
Oral Roberts - W

Awful schedule, but last time we said I think we were in the Top 65 in RPI so I remain optimistic.

We always say the cupcakes will get our younger guys experience, but Mooney is stubborn and never puts any of them in unless it is a huge blowout. Really hope this year is different because we will need them.

I really don't freakin' know to what expect this year. Should be fun though.

I think IM listed the 5 wins he predicts.

I am not saying we will win all of those games, but we will probably be favored in 10 or 11 of our OOC games.

really hope u do maybe you'll lighten up. The majority are here because we want to be here and love the Spiders. Yet you're someone who consistently says you don't like being here yet you sure do post a lot,.

I'm on record as saying I'm not too impressed with the schedule and I think 12 games instead of max 13 is a big mistake. I never predict, too much happens during course of season and the games will all come anyway and tell you what your record is. But we went 8-4 against, on paper, a better schedule last OOC. We're not some dumpy program. By most metrics we would be seen as the favored team against 9 or 10 of those games. So its not some ridiculous assertion. We have some unknown because we have more freshman anticipated to play larger roles than in the past. It's September there's nothing wrong with someone being optimistic. I'll take it over the constant pessimist. And if things go poorly well you'll be the first one to say "I told you so".

Bucknell is no push-over, I think they beat us the last two times we played. If we finish OOC 8-4 or better I'll be happy.

Besides, Maryland & Texas Tech, any P5 has the resources to get better year to years, so watch for BC & Wake. And JMU & Bucknell away shouldn't be an overwhelming underdog.

I see 9-3. I think we lose to Maryland, Texas Tech and then one of the two JMU/Buckell away game. Wake is also a lose able game, so 8-4 would be the lowest downside.

8-4 would be an underwhelming performance though given the number of low hanging fruit we have scheduled this year.

True, but they were at the top of the patriot last season, during a down year for that conference.
Not saying we can't lose to them, but they aren't nearly the team they were a few years ago. The Patriot was awful last year.

When's the last time Bucknell won a game against a top 150...looks like 2013 maybe.

True. Kenpom rated them comparable to UMass/Duquesne/GMU last year who we went 2-2 against. I think they are losing 3 of their top 4 players, they have a lot of talent to replace and might be considerably worse than they were last year.

It will be interesting to see what some of the services (realtimerpi, kenpom,...) have as our best to worst chances for wins in the OOC.

Mason beats us like a drum every year so if Bucknell is in there class, I'm marking it down as a loss

I have no clue where the spids are going to be this season. Texas Tech is going to be tough we lost there last year but it's here. Both teams were hurt by graduation. Bucknell and JMU away, could be difficult.

Hope we do better, but I see us at 6-6. I see us getting better in-conference as our new players learn the system and play better as a team. Hope I am wrong, but I think that a best-case scenario has us eking into the NIT.

6-6 OOC I think we'd have to go about 13-5 in conference to sniff the NIT. That would be quite the turnaround, not saying it couldn't happen but that scenario doesn't add up to me.

I'll play:

VMI - W (Duggar Bascom isn't there anymore and won't run us out the gym)
ODU - W (Although Jeff Jones was within sniffing distance of the dance, CUSA is pretty weak, and this should be a cakewalk)
Robert Morris - W (should be a victory)
Hampton - W (worried about this one, but we should be OK)
Maryland - L (Top 25 team, unlimited resources, we'll lose this one)
Boston College - W (went 0-for in the league last year)
Bucknell - W - (should win)
Wake - L - (I dont' think this will be the year we beat them)
UMBC - W (extremely weak program - many D3 schools can beat them, I think)
Texas Tech - L (agree with this one)
JMU - L (they have our number)
Oral Roberts - W (weak team)

8-4
