New JOC article on UR house settlement. Some nice encouraging statements from our administration that I’ll share below. Glad to see our leadership understands the importance of athletics, especially basketball. Also glad to see us have a vision to see what our women’s basketball can become too.

Summary: Neither men’s nor women’s basketball will disclose the amount UR will be giving players but will be “very aggressive” in elevating our basketball. Will give multi-year contracts. There is alignment across the board with donors, admin, etc.
My favorite quotes in the article :
Pertaining to women’s basketball
“I don’t know the exact number right now, but the university has made a great investment and the resources are there for this program to grow and to become even better. There’s no question about that,” he said. Roussell commended
Kevin Hallock, the UR president and a labor market economist, and
John Hardt, Richmond vice president and director of athletics, for their leadership in revenue sharing.
"They've made a real commitment to women's basketball," Roussell said of Hallock and Hardt. "And that's something we're real excited about."
Pertaining to men’s basketball:
Hardt said Richmond financially would set "an aggressive target ... The more we went through our process, the clearer it became that this was the right decision for Richmond. (This move) will allow us to continue to have a nationally competitive basketball program in this new era of collegiate athletics.
Athletics as a whole
"A successful athletics program brings together students, staff, faculty, alumni, and members of the broader Spider community and creates lifelong bonds between Spiders and their school. For generations, Spider athletics has prioritized competitive excellence, and this is the best path forward to ensure that continues."

Glad to hear directly from admin out loud what we’ve all known, which is the tremendous value athletics brings to a university and glad to see we’re investing appropriately. Us not disclosing the specifics doesn’t surprise me but I’m confident it’s within the $1-3 million Bernadette suggested and probably towards the higher end.
