Asher Nolting is good but agree we can outscore them particularly with 1000 fired up spider fans in the stands!

Wasn’t able to watch this one, but looks like we pretty much dominated all facets and kept Nolting in check. Did we throw any wrinkles at them, or were we just that much better? I felt we’d win, but a little surprised it was so comfortable.

“... Richmond Tops High Point In High-Profile SoCon Meeting

Dalton Young (6G/2A) and Ryan Lanchbury (3G/4A) combined for 15 points and connected on two goals to helped lead the Richmond Spiders past the High Point Panthers, 17-10. The win moves Richmond to 3-0 in the SoCon and further solidifies them as the consensus best team in the conference.

Outside of Young and Lanchbury, the Spiders Andrew Hamilton went 18-for-31 (58%) at the faceoff dot and Jack Rusbuldt made 13 saves with a 57% save percentage.

The Spiders outshot the Panthers 50-34, won the ground ball battle 31-23, and had 14 turnovers to High Point’s 17. 14 of those 17 turnovers that the Panthers had were caused. Only seven of the Spiders’ turnovers were caused.

Richmond’s dominance at nearly every spot on the field helped them get out to an impressive 10-4 halftime lead. A five-goal Spiders run from late in the second through early in the second aided that offensive and allowed them to take such a commanding lead at the half.

Like usual, High Point didn’t give up or give in, despite being down seven goals. The Panthers, who were led by Asher Nolting with two goals and an assist and saw Parker Green make 17 saves with a 50% save percentage, outscored Richmond 4-2 in the third quarter and ended the frame on a three-goal run. But while they were able to get within four heading into the final quarter of play, Richmond didn’t leave much room and pulled out the win...”

Another summary from Inside Lacrosse—-

“In a potential battle of the Southern Conference’s top two teams, No. 20 Richmond earned a decisive 17-10 victory against High Point, putting in a complete performance Friday night.

The Spiders limited High Point (2-5, 1-1 SoCon) to its second-lowest scoring output of the season, forced 14 turnovers and picked up 31 groundballs. LSM Sean Menges led the charge with three caused turnovers and six GBs, and Jake Saunders had a pair of caused turnovers to go along with five GBs.

And then there’s reigning Prime Time Player of the Week Ryan Lanchbury. He continued to showcase his assisting prowess, passing on four and scoring three goals of his own. Sophomore Dalton Young scored a game-high six goals; he has 16 goals and three assists in SoCon play this year.

Eight different Spiders scored.

The defense paced Richmond (4-3, 3-0) early, keeping High Point off the board for the first 11 minutes. Richmond took a 3-0 lead before the Panthers’ first tally — then extended out to 8-1. High Point showed a brief spurt with three straight in the third quarter — but a Richmond goal six seconds into the fourth was the dagger.

Andrew Hamilton won 18-of-31 face-offs. Goalie Jack Rusbuldt made 13 saves.

High Point’s Asher Nolting, Kevin Rogers and Dalton Sulver each had two goals.”

Shoults finally got the Spiders on the board with 5 seconds to go in the first...Panthers up 4–1.

Still plenty of time to go obviously, but we've gotta get this figured out. HPU has all the confidence in the world right now....killing us at the X and playing aggressively, and we're playing tentatively.

7–3 at the half. Doing better, but I still don't like the way we look. Time for a big halftime speech, coach.

I don't understand how they're killing us so badly at the X. Their guy didn't have great numbers on the season, and yet here he is today dominating regardless if we're putting Griffin or Hamilton out there.

Four straight goals by the Spiders spanning the half have pulled the margin to 7-5. HPU hasn't scored in over 15 minutes of game time.

Big sequence there...HPU shot blocked straight up in the air by Rusbuldt, hits the ground and after some whacks it starts rolling toward the goal. Rusbuldt smothers it just in time to save it, and the Spiders head the other way and Connell finds the back of the net. 7–6!

Spiders can't quite get over the hump, with the margin bouncing back and forth between 1 and 2. Now 9–7 HPU with 7:20 to go and Panther ball.

Faceoffs are 16–4 in favor of High Point...incredible.

Edit: D'oh...now 10–7 High Point.

That'll be it...we're down to a minute left and the Spiders are down 4. Very disappointing.

Tough season ending loss...roller coaster of a game .....walloped at the beginning with HP ahead 7-1 ...got some momentum and cut it to 7-6...could not get over the hump and faded down the stretch. Faceoffs totally lopsided in their favor which was a surprise after being the opposite in our earlier 17-10 win over them.............Now it is the proverbial "wait until next year"....particularly frustrating after being picked number 1 in conference heading into the year................

Like the first Air Force loss, the opposition just wanted it more.

After beating HPU by 7 goals earlier,we just seemed to underrate their ability.

To be honest our FO looked as though we were showing up at the X but had no intensity or desire to get the GB.It was a major flaw today.
