Transfer

I don't know why or how, but Richmond is the revolving door for kickers. Since 2012, we have had 5+ different kickers, and all of them have performed well, winning all conference honors. Trau has earned the right to kick PAT's and Field Goals next season, but if Jon Chereson can park kickoff's in the end zone, he is worth the scholarship. I am all for the added depth too. Trau got his first playing time in 2015 because we had a PAT blocked, and Peter Yoder was maliciously attacked by a Villanova defender in the scrum. You never know when your number will be called.

see not allowing kids to communicate with other conf teams but teams from another level? well, coaches are a wee paranoid, maybe they feel that the kids would give our coaches a better gameplan or something along those lines.

I heard through the grapevine that UVa may not be allowing some transfers to talk to Richmond because we have a game there next year. Incredibly pathetic.

Not so sure of UVa preventing any transfer not able to communicate with UR.Sounds like conjecture.I believe Landan Word(6-5,245) is on our radar.Terrell is on PSU,UF radar. Both played in 11 games last season and Word started 2 games. He alone would be a great get for UR with his family less than a 2 hour hour ride down I-95 and have 3 years of remaining eligibility Having Barry Word,a former great UVA RB,as a student-athlete parent would be a benefit as well.

I may be a little fuzzy on this but it seems to me that several years ago either at a signing party or a Spider Club breakfast Rocco said, when asked about Helkowski's scholarship, that scholarships to kickers at the FCS level are rare and that he would only give a scholarship to a kicker if he was sure the kicker would be excellent
at at least two of the three kicking duties (punts, kickoffs and field goals/extra points). How has that worked out?

what he said was that HE (rocco) did not give scholarships, not the FCS field of coaches

assuming UVA is prohibiting them from talking to UR as the source says, what does it take for a player to be free of their controls and allowed to talk to whomever he wants-- are they free to talk once they get their release?

They will not get a release except under the terms of not attending certain schools. Virginias move shows real weakness on their part. My guess is that the Tribe is under same deal. Its amazing that a FBS team is that concerned about FCS teams. Of course, maybe they are smart since we kicked their butts last time around.

Cavs play W&M next year so they are out plus Indiana plus UConn plus Boise State. In 2018 Cavs play UR,Indiana,Ohio,ODU.They are out.In 2019 UVA plays Notre Dame. They are out.In 2020,UVA plays Georgia,VMI,and ODU.They are out.

It appears their 2019 and 2020 schedules remain incomplete. Is Littlepage still on medical leave?
If so,these are all Jon Oliver edicts du jour.

short of sitting out a year is there any other way for a player to work around the restriction, or transfer without the release

if a guy leaves school and enrolls elsewhere, you are telling me, his prior school still controls him? that is a tad antiquated not to mention stupid.

Thanks for the link 32, I believe this is the answer to my question, and basically what I remembered.

This does not preclude you from transferring; however, if the new school is in Division I or II, you cannot receive an athletics scholarship until you have attended the new school for one academic year.

guess you want some limitations or transferring would be even more prevalent. do detest though when a school really places the cuffs on a young man or woman, at least play fair athletic directors.

Wtf and LOL...they couldn't beat us, now they want to join us. UVA yanked that baton from Duke football and is the new joke of the east coast in football.

LOL don't do big Caleb "get em a pedialyte" High like that

Wonder if there is mutual interest in this Temple player to enroll at UR.Was a high school classmate of Deontez Thompson.

A pair of freshmen each made an impact rushing for the Owls, as WR Isaiah Wright made his debut with seven notable touches (42 yards) at tailback while WR Cortrelle Simpson notched two end-around sweeps for 40 yards.

Maybe I misunderstood your reply, but I was confused as to why you wanted me to reference your post above. I'm glad he has three years of eligibility left. Seems like a solid player
