The future is bright

Ulla. I agree that our future is bright with a lot of "ifs" but I also see a flame out in two years unless we connect on some better than usual recruits (again). Too many unknowns for my liking.

No "Single-minded agenda", just stating facts, as to our current situation. Rooting for all current/prospective players and coaches to succeed.

Your posting defines "Single-minded agenda".

More support is needed for our team/program.

I believe Ulla with CM, he's getting all the FINANCIAL support he needs. If this was the CAA or Pat league and half his current salary, probably less criticism by us. Not enough Bang for the Buck IMO.

And if the players are reading the negativity posted here, almost all of it is pointed in CM's direction. Isn't one of purposes going to college is expanding one's young mind with ideas beyond just their major designation.

Well I believe we here are giving them food for thought not to just blindly follow their coach. No mutiny but nothing wrong with reading our questioning of the CM's coaching decisions we put forth and letting them decide what to make of it.

Broc, wish there were more positive, supportive threads. To the contrary, most of the current threads denigrate our players and coaches. Sorry. More support is needed for our team/program.

We all want the program to succeed. We all support the team.

The article you linked is nothing more than a Mooney PR piece. Of course he thinks the future is bright. He's thought the same thing after every season since 2006. What else is he going to say? "I have no idea what the future holds?"

The "many pundits and coaches" you cited in that article consisted of one rehashed Martelli quote after yet another home loss in a critical - and winnable - game.

So how much is said positively about the 3 red shirts who did not
play? What will they contribute next tear? Who will become a bonified
backup for Grant with the ability to score and defend? A transfer? A
Redshirt or unnamed new recruit?

Outside of the starting 5 there are so,so many unknowns that it is
impossible to say to what degree our season will be better. A defection,
an injury, a missed recruit, and we are in the same boat.

Carolina, what you said can be said about every team, every year. However, what cannot be said about every team, every year, is that our current players, who improved throughout the year and developed a sense of pride and accomplishment at the end, these guys will all be back. Moreover, they will have a collective agenda which will include winning and advancing to post season play. It’s a great time to be a Spider!

We've been hearing the same "future is bright", "just wait until next year" talking points every single year since 2012. What do you think money bags is going to say? "Yeah, fans should expect more of the same next yr. We're going to suck." It's a PR tactic used to persuade fans into buying STs, or become STHs and keep the donations coming in.

And what happens the following season?

Knock it off with the 'if you criticize the coaches then you don't support the program or players' BS. It's an argument based on failed logic.

X2. You are so right.

I hope for everyone's sake and especially those who cling to Mooney's sport coat that we are not having this same discussion next year in March...AGAIN.

See your single-minded agenda, 2011, but no more as you are now being "Ignored".
2011 that means you are doing something right. Ulla's take on anything can not be taken seriously. Future is bright, next year willbe awesome... come on. Same garbage for 7 years.

Coming off a 20 loss season is like to think by comparison the future is bright...

Perhaps we can set a higher bar

If we go 14-16 next year, that technically is improvement. Seriously, who's fooling who here? A new basketball facility is like moving the same hot garbage into new shiny digs. Won't improve anything as long as the same garbage man is driving the truck.

can the negative guys give the positive at ;east one thread? Seems only fair to me

There's plenty of positive to discuss, just CM still being the coach dwarfs talking about it. And Davidson winning today only strengthens that attitude at the moment.

All I ask is that you put that in a different thread -- give the positive one thread -- we all want the best for the Spiders, we just have different opinions

Exactly we all on this board want to be at that finale tournament game like today rooting our team to a berth or already were getting one. We can all agree on that right? Well Davidson just showed how a school very much like ours did it and has been doing it. Wake up those in charge it’s time for us to be in the mix too

If you want to be positive with this regime, then fine. Have fun. At least be honest about it when doing so in this forum....

Most messageboards are adept at picking fly specks (family version) out of black pepper. Admittedly, the size of the fly can very thereby changing the degree of difficulty to gripe but all do.

We just finished 12-19 and have the same team returning...
So you didn't notice an improvement in play from the beginning of the season to the end? We're going to have one of the best backcourts in the league with Khwan and Jake, Grant's going to be stronger, Nick is really finding his rhythm, and Buck is Buck and will keep bringing it. Lots of positives to build upon.
Go Spiders!

Anyone over 25 who has watch college hoops for 20 years just knows that we have a bad coach. Thats it. The players are great, and talented but our coach is not going to get the most out of them nor win meaningful games. Its not pesimistic it is reality, w years of proof.

I was extremely impressed with Khwan over the last stretch of the season. Over the last 10 games he shot 60% from 2, 35% from 3 and 81% from the line. He also averaged ~3 assists and a steal per game over that time as well. His FT% improvement in particular has been very impressive. If he puts up numbers like that over the entire course of his senior year he will be on one of the all A10 teams.

I agree that the future is bright. But how bright, that's the great unknown? The reason I came into this season thinking we would be an NCAA team this year was because of how bright things seemed at the end of LAST season. Sherod had a killer game against VCU in Pittsburgh and showed in the second half of the year that he was a real scorer. Khwan was developing a strong jump shot. Golden was getting lots of reps and adding weight. Gilyard was going to be a stud. Johnson had some good scoring games and appeared likely to become the three-point shooter we needed. Buckingham was rookie of the year and would only get better.

Then this season started and it looked like everyone had forgotten how to play basketball. For two months. So, I'm leery. I want to think we will continue to improve, but past history tells me we will lose our home-opener to a CAA team, like we did this year, like we did a couple year ago with a veteran team, etc. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I'm tired of being fooled.

We can score. Most of the time offense is not the issue and with some depth I think it would be even better. Issue is defense. Mooney has to find a way to get this team to defend. Our two best offensive players are not good defenders. It’s on the coaches to improve both these guys on defense and more importantly to look for different defensive schemes that will help this group as a whole improve on defense.

Golden was getting lots of reps?

I'm also tired of being fooled. I know with these players and the right coach they can do great things in the next few years.

No question our fab five are going to be even better, but there is no conclusive
evidence that our red shirts will supply the needed pieces of the puzzle, like rebounding
and offense. Sal has some good credentials but being a frosh we just don't know and if
lacking in defensive skills, we know amount of playing time he will get.

Ulla I know we will be better, but there are too many unknowns that could make this team
a lot better. Without the unknowns being proven then I hold reserved optimism for how much
better next year will be. Can you dig it? Go Spiders.

One of the things that Davidson has is a basketball practice facility that opened within the past 2 or 3 years. Soon we will be blessed with the new Queally Center which will ramp up enthusiasm about our basketball program.

I think we will be in the NIT or better next year. The redshirts add needed size inside and our core 7 guys are all returning. I think Mooney will schedule an easy OOC to get the power of belief going(predict 8-4) and we will need to win 12 in the A 10 if we want to have our sights on NCAA.

Looks like it will take at least 14 wins in A-10. Davidson had 13 and weren’t going. Bonnies won 14 and barely made it.

Its fine saying next year will be better. Going to the NIT isnt acceptable at all next year. Winning 20 games and make the NIT is what I expect to happen. Considering how history continues to repeat itself. Not expecting transfers to make much impact since it takes so long to learn the Princeton offense. A lot of variables between now and next year. Like who actually stays here. I think some players might transfer. Considering how few minutes many players got on the bench. Hopefully we actually look prepared to start the season next year. That was really embarrassing losing to Delaware and Jacksonville State by such a big margin at home to start the year. That kinda set a bad tone for the whole year. Be back next year.

I bet you the Moonster has been on the phone with Bryce Golden the last 5 Days. Pitt’s only other recruit for this year, who is from Idaho, has backed out already.
