Thank you for your continued investment as a Spider Club member. Your financial support provides our student-athletes with opportunities to succeed in the classroom, excel in competition, and serve in the community.
As you may already be aware, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has been signed into law. Prior to its passage, donations made in exchange for Spider Club benefits were 80% deductible under federal tax law. Under the new federal tax law, charitable contributions made after December 31, 2017, which qualify donors for priority seating for athletic events are no longer deductible. This change could have significant impact on our Spider Club membership.
In an effort to appropriately steward your generous donations to Spider Club we have created two new fund designations allowing you to direct your contributions in a manner that best meets your goals. Because we are in the middle of the University’s giving year, these designations will be used to direct all monies received from January 1, 2018 – June 30, 2018. During this period, all donations previously directed to the Spider Club Annual Fund (SAF) must be directed to one of the fund designations detailed below.
We are continuing to assess the impact of the tax laws and considering our plans for future years. Your contributions are vitally important to the success of our athletic programs. We will update you as we learn more about how these changes may affect our Spider Club members. Please consult your tax advisor to discuss the impact of tax law changes on your personal situation.
As a Spider Club member, your support allows us to maintain our competitive advantage compared to our peer institutions. Thank you for your commitment to the University of Richmond, our student-athletes, and coaches.

- Spider Club Benefits (not tax-deductible) - fund designation that qualifies the giver to any and all tangible Spider Club benefits, including Spider Points, the right to purchase priority season tickets for athletics events, and other tangible benefits and is therefore NOT tax deductible.
- Spider Club Gift (all benefits declined) - fund designation which is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law but which bestows no tangible benefits for donors with the exception of the Spider Club Window decal. Please consult your tax advisor about the deductibility of your gifts.
