Molly Wise qualified to compete at Nationals in Oregon. Go Spiders!

She faulted all three of her attempts, which is a shame. I'm not super familiar with jumping events other than watching Carl Lewis in the Olympics as a kid. How common is it for that to happen (she was the only competitor out of 24 at NCAAs to do it in this event), and couldn't you just try to be super conservative on your last attempt to ensure you put up some sort of score? If she had matched her school record from earlier in the season, she would have finished 10th.

Tremendous accomplishment to get there, but I'm sure she's super disappointed.

I'm sure she could have been conservative as you say, but I suspect to be the competitor she is she wanted to swing for the fences on every effort. Believing in herself is how she got there. For a jumper the shoes, the temperature, the surface, the wind, and other things can throw your steps off, you just try to adjust. Yes not usual to have 3 scratches, but it does happen even to the best.
