Syria

Now Biden needs to grow and pair and covertly destroy the Russian naval base at Tartus. That would end Russian hegemony in the Mediterranean and would deny the base to the Chinese.

Then Biden needs to place the US backed rebels- the Sryian Democratic Army- across the land bridge between Iran and Hezbollah. Give them arms and supplies to stay.

Then let Syria be Syria.

Can we please give up the Russian obsession? Biden was weaker on Russia than Trump's first term. Undeniable fact.

The Steele dossier was opposition research and totally debunked and shamelessly handled by the intelligence community.

Serious question - specifics on why Trump is in bed with Russia? Don't see it, but willing to listen and consider.

The policy question is what are the US' interests and what should we do?

We want to push Russia out of the middle east.
We want to deny bases in Syria to China.
We want to deny the oil fields in Syria to the ISIS/ al-Queda affiliates
We want to facilitate a severance of the corridor between Iran and Lebanon.
We want to thwart the hegemony of Iran in Syria and the Levant.

Any thoughts?

So who do you think benefits most by the breakup of NATO, another thing Trump has frequently broached? Who benefits most by a reduction of American support to Ukraine, and an immediate cease-fire with sides holding their current positions, another Trump position?

Trump might as well be a Russian agent.

Then Putin must be a glutton for punishment, because he sure spent a lot of money spreading disinformation and misinformation trying to help Trump win the 2024 election. Undeniable fact.

Trump wants NATO members to pay their fair share, 2%, that they pledged to pay by majority vote of the membership. Sure he uses bluster, synonymous with his name, but in no way he wants to break up NATO. Europeans enjoy the social services that we envy bc we largely have paid for their defense for decades. Trump wants to square the deal, not destroy NATO. Blustery, but not dumb.

As to Ukraine, suddenly both sides are willing to talk. Why? What changed? Explain how a resolution can be achieved other than both sides holding what they hold. The precedent was set in 2014 when Obama fecklessly permitted Russian to seize Crimea with scarcely a whimper.

A most unreliable source. Often compiled and written by those with a finger on the scale.

Mueller report found substantial Russian interference, just did not feel could prove colussion with Trump campaign. Trump and croonies interference with investigation prevented a full and free investigation. (read the book Interference).

Here's another source, one of several. But I guess if its not on the Fox News Fiction channel, you don't believe it.

Because it's much cheaper than stationing millions of American troops in Europe to keep the Russians in check.

May be talking past one another on this, Wood.

Point was, just as with the rich domestically, every NATO member needs to "pay their fair share", self defined by NATO membership as 2% of country's GDP. Many haven't for years, even decades. USA picks up the tab while the chiselers fund social services for their citizens not enjoyed here.

But I guess if it IS on Fox News, you don't believe it.....works both ways LTSF

The Assad regime in Syria, with the help of Russia and Iran, has murdered hundreds of thousands of his own people.

Tens of thousands of people disappeared into the country’s sprawling detention network since the regime of President Bashar al-Assad moved to suppress a 2011 uprising. Rebels opened Saydnaya on Sunday after ousting Assad, freeing detainees and allowing the public to look for the missing.

“Ninety-nine percent of them are dead,” said Ammar Al-Bara, a lawyer in a crisp white shirt and stylish gray coat who said families had asked him to search for their relatives.

He pulled a sheet from a bundle of prison records tucked under one arm, and read from a table of names. “Executed, executed, dead from sickness,” he said, pointing at the list. ...

The article continues...

"With military backing from Russia and Iran, Assad remained in power for more than a decade after Syrians launched the 2011 uprising. He fled to Russia last weekend as opposition forces surged to the capital, while government soldiers shed their uniforms and surrendered.

After the uprising, the regime expanded its use of torture and mass arrests to an industrial scale, according to Western governments, human-rights groups and survivors of the abuses. By 2022, some 100,000 Syrians had gone missing....

Along with his use of chemical weapons and bombing of rebel-held areas, Assad’s prisons are a global symbol of his regime’s brutality and a key reason that an array of countries shunned him. Hundreds of thousands of people died during the course of Syria’s civil war, and 12 million people were uprooted from their homes.

We need to roll back the Russia-Iran connection in the middle east. To do this, we need to use soft power and American financial might to cripple Russia and Iran. We need to bring Russia to its knees. The following will take about 6 months and should last about 15 years.

We need to increase LNG access on the east coast to supply natural gas to Europe. (start by lifting Biden's moratoriums).
We need to build pipeline access across the US, using American Steel.
We need to drill for more natural gas in the US.
We need to dramatically increase sanctions on Russia's central bank.
We need to sanction Europe (if necessary) to discourage Russia's supply of natural gas to Europe.
We need to return to the maximum pressure campaign against Iran.
We need to sanction China to force it away from supporting Russia.
We need to impound Russia's assets in the US to support Ukraine and to pay for our support of Ukraine.

We need to supply as many weapons as possible to Ukraine to force Russia to the table. If Ukraine wants to cut a peace plan with Russia, fine.
