Can we use this thread when anybody gets actual news so we have one place to look for breaking info.

I am trying to look at to many threads to try to keep up with any actual news.

Just news updates here - no comments - will keep it simple - hope this works for everyone.

If you post a comment an electronic surge will be sent to your keyboard and will knock you out of your chair....

think frank rocco is the person stealing all of the socks and shirts out of the football equip room

3 Rocco brothers - all football coaches - Danny, Frank, Dave. Dave is the football coach at Charlottesville High School.

This whole situation is gross. Thanks to the administration for being asleep at the wheel and Danny for burning bridges on his way to a conference rival.

Frank Rocco, sounds like a description of Coach's personality that fits perfectly.

We need to get the issues fixed at UR.

think this was already a done deal weeks ago but temple, having been turned down by everyone, kind of messed with things a tad. if DR was moving to a fbs or other location, would pull for him but right now, he is right in the same bed with vdu in my mind.

Say what you want about the administration, Rocco sure handled this poorly, and if what is said about it being a done deal weeks ago, he lied to the university, the players, and the fans. No good reason that I can think of to handle it in such a manner as he did.

Well, what would his alternative be? To say, "Yeah, I'm gone" while we're competing for a title? That would go over well.

I have no hard feelings toward Rocco. He got a better opportunity and took it. It's on our athletic department to do a better job. If they can make a decent hire, then we'll be OK. If we get another London/Latrell, well, it could get ugly

I would not have allowed DJ to redshirt knowing that I was leaving. He had that choice. I suspect he had his eye on the bonuses he received for each game he advanced in the playoffs. No one thought we had much of a chance to go very deep in the playoffs and we were already guaranteed one home game. We could have most probably won that one without KJ.
Now he probably takes KJ with him knowing that he has a redshirt year left and since he is a transfer, it really makes no difference to KJ. Despite DR's protestations, I think this was a thought out plan.

KJ wanted to play, and he gave the team the best chance to win. You don't go into the playoffs holding back. If you do, why even play those game?

And plus, if Rocco already agreed to go to UD before the playoffs, and KJ was planning on going with him, it doesn't matter that we burned a year (which he can easily get back). If he left without playing in the playoffs, we get 0 return from the recruiting of him. At least with him playing, we got 2 wins.

And if DR was just looking for that bonus, so what? It just gave him even more incentive to go further and further into the playoffs. Our quarterfinals appearance isn't marked by an asterisk if our coach was only doing it for the money.

The decision for KJ to play was ABSOLUTELY the right one. He was the only QB who gave us a chance to win and advance in the playoffs. Without him, we lose to UND. Maybe we even lose to NC A&T, who knows? I am losing no sleep over that, and it was KJ's decision anyway.

It is not a foregone conclusion that these players will transfer.

Caller "Ed" on Hardly Workin' yesterday repeated some advice I've heard given top recruits many times: "Commit to the school, not the coach."

Not to continue the rain but at 1-AA level players are allowed one move to another 1-AA school and not have to miss a year.
I'd expect a handful moving over and not ave talent kids

OK, there's one. Do we put on the full court press?

We have no one to put on the full court press for us. We have no leader and no staff. There is no one to contact this guy. Timing for us is awful here - - we actually hurt ourselves by advancing. Others (including UD no doubt) are all over our recruits and we have no way of answering. Soon, the dark period will start and our recruits will have heard nothing from anyone on the Richmond football staff. We need to get a coach hired yesterday.

Given the lead up to this, we should have already known exatly what we were going to go (and based on offer to Russ, maybe we did) but we better also know exactly Plan B if he turns us down.

Not true. You may be thinking of going from BCS school to FCS school. Even if it were allowed CAA has own rule about intra conference transfer. Automatic 1 year sit out and you get no athletic aid during that 1 year residency either.

But then you'd have a degree from Delaware - if they even care about you graduating. The vast majority of our players value that degree and I honestly think that is a recruiting advantage. There is a lot of smoke being blown around now. Richmond football will be fine. Thanks for the memories DR, I hope Delaware is everything you want it to be.

if DR takes even one player, or commit with him, he then goes under vdu on my black list. that would show his true colors and they would not be pretty, complete lack of class if that happens.

I suspect that person thought you were referring to a FBS to FCS school transfer. That or they shouldn't be in compliance. I-AA (FCS) players can't go to another I-AA and not have to sit out. Legislated by both NCAA and CAA bylaws. Exception would be if the FCS player was going off scholarship to a school that didnt offer athletic aid. Where is @SFspidur? He is the resident expert on these matters. SF any thoughts here, maybe something changed or I lost my brain and if so I will gladly admit I'm wrong.

I will reach out and ask again. Ps I hope your right

  1. If you are a Division I football student-athlete, you may use the one-time transfer exception only if you meet one of the following conditions:

    • You are transferring from a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) school to a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) school and you have two seasons of competition eligibility remaining.

    • You are transferring from an FCS school that offers athletics scholarships to an FCS school that does not offer athletics scholarships.

    • You were documented as both not recruited and never receiving an athletics scholarship at your rst four-year school.

      Copied from SF's reference above.
