Spiders vs. Colgate

1. Usually a game by game decision. Some teams you'd rather the QB keep it, some you let the RB take. By letting the QB keep it you allow the outside safety to stay wide and not have to come more inside. That's a simple answer.
2. Fire/reassign Legg
3. Thompson missed a lot of blitz pickups at Stony Brook. But agree thought he would play some.
We are lucky their QB didn't keep it more than he did. He was the best athlete on field and killed us all day when he called his own number. Thank goodness he is not a good passer.

Colgate is a top 25 team that will likely win the Patriot League and be in the playoffs. They have good players, just ask UNH and JMU! I agree their QB is a good runner, but our D did a nice job defending the pass. He did throw for 5 TDs last week. The Spiders were not perfect on D, but I thought they played relatively well. Remember, Colgate scored once on a blocked punt and were set up at our 5 yard line thanks to a long kick off return. Take those 2 TDs off the board and the score looks a lot different.

Thanks for the info but there needs to be a better answer they picked up 7+ yards over and over, in part they lost because the got the holding call, making it 1st and 20 and they decided to throw..... which they don't do well..

I'm surprised they weren't called for more holding calls. From my vantage point it appeared that there were several missed calls.

The game was turned by the defense in the 2nd quarter. The stand that held Colgate to a FG to keep it 17-10 instead of 21-10, and then the three-and-out they forced after Lauletta's pick at midfield. The offense fed off that and drove 96 yards for the tying TD.

Colgate goes up two possessions and I don't like our chances.

Somebody can explain to me on a read hand off from the QB to the running back. who do you hit? We hit the running back who didn't have the ball probably dozen or more times. I would think, like on an option play you always hit the QB. He is in control of who gets the ball, he will get tired of getting hit, he might fumble or just get beaten up. Any thoughts?

I agree. Our NT kept smashing the RB immediately after the fake. Smash the QB instead, and that fake becomes trickier to execute.

Our defense did a remarkably good job shutting down a pretty potent offense, holding them to just over 250 yards. Take away the punt block and the Wilkins fumble return and we held them to 17. I'm much more concerned about our offense and specials than our defense right now.

It was no secret that Melville was/is an excellent runner.Luckily his passing not so much with our pass rush and man coverage.Chris Cosh et al did a great job especially after Raider offensive display in New Haven.
