Spiders hosting Duquesne Saturday

wow think a guy making 1.2 1.3 mil would prep the team more. After all that was all we could talk about with our own team. Nuts.

Just noticed that they actually counted Gilyard's three at the buzzer. The ref waved it off at the time. They must have gone back and reviewed it.

Very end of the NBCSN broadcast showed the refs talking at the scorer's table and figured that was what it was about. Thought Gilyard had shot just before buzzer was about to go off.

The good thing is that playing Duquesne is the team so far that Mooney has owned.

Haha, I did think he got it off, ref just seem annoyed and waived off. It is the type of move the other teams coach will play before the next game.

Agree esp w a Duq matchup possible in A10. not a savvy move by a veteran leader. I was surprised he shot it. Maybe he thought it was coming after buzzer.

The game is 40 minutes long. If they didn't want him shooting it, they shouldn't have turned it over and should have defended him better. Besides, margin of victory matters in the NET.

Don't agree here. He was dribbling the game out and shot with 1 second left. Bad form. An SDSU recently drafted NBA (now g league I think) did this and it was a huge controversy and head coach had to address it in the media. Weak sauce. I am supportive of the players but if Mooney survives this year we are cursed for another 8 years.

I say boohoo. Did we hurt their feelings by beating them by seven instead of four? I never get upset about this stuff regardless of whether we are winning or losing. Play to the end, that's it.

Since part of the game is the mindset and the Spiders have shown they play differently based on preconceived notions, I don’t think I would have bought it up either. Probably would have gone with Duquesne has their best team ever....

so guess u could say if a team is without their best player injured or something u don’t bring up either. They gameplan & scout against everyone. This is part of it. Maybe it’s look to push the ball more bc they don’t have their legs. Think u have to raise. Yes u don’t want the team thinking it will be easier. Mindset is important I agree with u but that is coaching.

I kind of agree, especially for the team on the short end of the score. But this was GIlly pretending to run out the clock vs no defense, and then shooting right before the buzzer. I'll give him benefit of the doubt, maybe he was trying to shoot right after the buzzer?
I have been a guy in the past that doesn't believe in the chalkboard messages for motivation type stuff. But if we did have to play DUQ again, this definitely could be used. Shaka was masterful at using that type of stuff while at VCU. Of course Shaka's bench imploded last night and he blew a 16 point lead vs WVA.

I hate that the NET includes margin of victory. you try to teach good sportsmanship but you hurt yourself being a good sport.

he absolutely dribbles out the clock before this year but we're fighting at the back end of the bubble right now. since the NET stupidly includes margin of victory, Jacob absolutely should shoot the ball there.

By the way, when I was young many years ago, it was considered bad sportsmanship for anyone in the crowd to make noise during free throws (who else remembers the dead silence?). Now the scoreboard flashes the "Make Noise" meter and they give away free sausage biscuits.

Mo Alie Cox dunked on us pretty purposefully at the end of a game in the RC a few years ago when the outcome was not in doubt. It sucked to watch, but more power to him. If we didn't want him rubbing it in our faces, we should have played better. It doesn't bother me.

If he was dribbling like he was going to dribble the game out, would hope our team would take exception.
