Spiders #19 in AP poll

Gotta think so. And close to the highest, right? I feel like maybe we were 16 or 18 once, but I might be wrong. This may be our high watermark.

EDIT: From JOC's article just now: "Richmond was ranked No. 20 for one week during January of 1986, No. 19 and No. 17 during two weeks in December of 1958, and No. 13 and No. 17 during three weeks in January of 1955. The AP Poll started on Jan. 20, 1949."

Yes, it is the earliest we have been ranked. They said our preseason AP votes this year were the highest ever and that put us at 32. This is the 1st ranking since the season started. I think our 19th ranking is the highest ever, but I am sure I will be corrected if wrong. This ranking could also go up if we win Wednesday.

If memory serves we were 16-1 on 1/27/1986, with the loss at GT (Price, Salley, Hammonds, Ferrell...).
Voted #20 and the next day loss to ORV ODU with Kenny Gattison...

I wonder how often Virginia Tech and UR have ever been ranked in the same AP top 25. Serious question to the board; which win is more impressive, Tech over Villanova or UR over Kentucky? Both were pretty damn impressive to me.

I’ll go with Tech being a bigger win simply because I think Villanova is a better team than Kentucky. Villanova is really good and should have won that game but Tech did just enough to stay in it and eventually win in overtime.
