I know today is late notice and I'm still relatively new to this board, but have you guys ever done a message board meet up? Do you people actually exist? I would love to meet some of you guys before a game this season.

I think there was some discussion of having some beer and BBQ at Pig Beach (owned by UR alum) near Barclay, but that was when Covid reared its ugly head and shut fans and then entire A10 tourney down.
I am real. I do recall, I think GK offered to drive 4700 to the aforementioned meet up and buy him a beer.

I’m grateful to have met number of posters thru games or events over the years. All good people that bleed red & blue. Geez some must go back at least 20 years now.
heck 1 former poster who I sat near identified me from boards by listening to me at games lol.
I’ve never met any of the other posters here, but I’m class of 2016 and live in California. So even going to Spiders games is a rarity for me.
But if the Spiders ever come back to the west coast would love to meet anybody who makes the trip

This is the part where I admit that despite 13,000 posts here, I have attended only 1.5 Spider basketball games in my lifetime, both losses. Between life stuff and just not being a big in-person sports guy, I'm happy to religiously follow on TV/streaming.

2012 UMass at the RC…my three year old was bored and wanted to leave at halftime. Spiders ended up losing by 11.
Anybody still on the board that was present at a SpiderNation Meet Up "Tailgate" in a parking lot behind a grocery store and under train tracks near the old U-Haul in Charlottesville during the Jerry Wainwright Era? This must have been closer to 20 years ago than 15.
As i recall, the Spiders got smoked in the game against UVA and 2 or 3 people locked their keys in their car. One of them was "Spider Goose" and his Cutlass Sierra. Is Goose still on the board and under a new moniker or has he wandered off our reservation like so many others?

I, on the other hand, went to the Maryland NIT game and next home football or basketball game I missed was was JMU in 2006.
And yet I am not sure there are more than 5 people who attend games who know who I am.

That's an impressive run.
By the way, the game I saw in its entirety was a loss to Pepperdine in 2002 at the Stanford Invitational. It just so happened that Montana also upset a ranked Stanford team that night, so we got to face Stanford in the consolation game the following night. We won that game, but unfortunately I was stuck listening to it from the airport as I waited for a flight back east for Christmas.
That NC State games was crazy. Remember walking all through the State fan tailgates before the game, then getting home and reading about how two people were shot and killed at one of them. Must have happened a little while after because I saw and heard nothing.
Goose actually transferred out from UR completely. Still keeps up with some guys from the rugby team.
We had an event maybe 5 years ago at The Cellar on campus. Was looking to do again this year but they're only open one day a week these days.

If Goose comes back to a game in the RC, i'll come back. But only if Goose does or that other thing happens.
It was clear we were doomed as soon as we came out in those. I don't think we were ever in the game. Never wore those unis again.
And the railroad tailgate was a classic. Multiple people locked themselves out of their cars.
I was at this game, though I don't recall any group gathering. I think the jerseys would of looked better had the Spider had a red hour glass on it, but the color scheme was odd and I don't think ever repeated. Remember the UVA fans calling Daon Merrit an Umpa Lumpa.
The gathering spot was very covert and well-planned. Or should I say well, planned... about five minutes before we ended up there.

Thinking about it a little more, was a future US Congressman one of the others that locked his keys in his car? In his future District, no less?
A better suggestion would be attendance at Coach Mooney`s coach's show. It is
Behind The Web with Chris Mooney, 6 PM om Monday. I believe it is held at the World of Beer.
