3 spiders made Sport Illustrated's top 100 scorers.

TJ: #48
SDJ: #68
TA: #86

There were several other A-10 players selected. Most notably Jack Gibbs at #9

Go Spiders!

4 of the top 10 on that list are from the A10!

#4 Jordan Price - La Salle
#8 E.C Mathews - URI
#9 Jack Gibbs - Davidson
#10 Bembry - SJU

and #12 is Marcus Posley from St. Bonaventure!

If 5 of the top 12 scorers this year are from the A10 we will have a very exciting conference.

The reason our guys aren't higher is because we play at a slow pace and don't have one guy take a huge majority of our shots, we spread the ball around.

And they played with Kendall Anthony. They should be higher ranked this year.

The Bonnies also have Dion Wright at #53. Don't some polls have them near the bottom of the conference?

Posley and Wright are going to be very good this year. Their sophomore Adams is really good too. Other than that they don't really have anyone, and they haven't been good as a team since Nicholson left.

No idea if their prediction is right but if they are...
TC 14.8
SJ 14.2
TA 13.8

then 1 point higher average over last year for...
DT 3.5
TD 5.2

Add...
MW 7
KF 3

That is higher than our opponent's average last year and 5 less than ours.

That seems more than doable.

I am going to guess that our freshmen (KF, JJ, JP and PF) will average over 10 points per game as a group.

I would agree. I think 7 is a bit high for MW, personally, but 3 is far too low for Khwan. I think Khwan is going to play significant minutes.

Marshall will play starter minutes by mid season and average double digit points for the last half of the season. OSC

We have a pretty crowded front court especially if Trey gets bumped up from 2 to 3, so I am not going to predict that.

But did just look at Marshall's past. Very few things can translate directly from High School to College. And don't know if he was unhappy and unfocused his entire sophomore year. But these look encouraging...

HS Senior 42 of 113 from 3 (37.2%), 175 of 223 from FT line (78.5%)
FR College 17 of 49 from 3 (34.7%), 19 of 24 from FT line (79.2%)

I would certainly take those numbers if he could return to them.

Mite, the thing that translates best for me is that Chris Mooney said that Marshall is a very good shooter. Moreover, other coaches have echoed Chris' comments. In addition, all say Marshall is extremely athletic and an excellent rebounder. OSC

What I meant was, there is no point posting 2 point shooting or rebounding number from HS because college is a different animal.

But outside shooting and FT shooting usually can translate. Although you are open for a shorter time in college and more exhausted when shooting.

His freshman year Wood shot 41% from 2 and 24% from 3. No one on our team shot less than 44% from 2 last year and the only person to shoot worse from 3 was Deion. His sophomore year Wood increased his 3pt shooting to 34.7%, which is about the division average for teams, but shot 37% from 2 which is the lower than anyone on our team in the Mooney era who attempted at least a shot per game.

I really hope he does better in our system, his college stats do not look good.

For whatever reason, the site I looked at reversed his Freshman & Sophomore stats.

If he does shoot between 34.7% and 37.2% from 3 this season, would you consider that a sufficient number for a front court player on our team?

if 5 more 3's dropped his sophomore year he'd be a 45% shooter from deep. we'd be thinking we have the next Kevin Durant.
the volume is way too limited to get anything from those stats. if everyone says he's a good shooter, bet he's a good shooter.

If you take his career college statistics he shot 29% from 3 and 39% from 2. This is not someone who I would expect to score a lot of points. I tend to err on the side of in-game performance when trying to predict future performance. We will see.

For people who are saying "our coaches and players have commented on how good Wood is at shooing and rebounding", of course our team isn't going to say anything negative about Wood. They are being asked about him specifically in interviews since he is a new piece in our team and they are giving pretty general praise. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I hope Wood is a really amazing player who can drain threes, pull down a ton of rebounds, and defend well, but I just don't think he realistically will be anything more than a role player.
