Did anyone else go to the new signee party tonight? I thought it was nice with 8 new young ladies on the women’s team and 6 on the men’s. Not many questions were asked of the two coaches and nothing controversial was said or asked. I will say there was not much excitement or buzz in the room. Kind of went down the list for both teams and a short bio on each. I didn’t feel any tension in the room, but it was fairly quiet.

K, I was there and agree it was nice and informative. Felt like both the men’s and women’s classes were solid.

Good stuff K, I would have attended if in town, likely would have been jumped by the coaches (wearing my Spider23 - Head Coach on Spidernation.com T Shirt) that monitor the board - but that's OK. Interesting about the lack of buzz, but with the way information is known instantly now, not much of a surprise or new information obviously. Other than Gustavson's late arrival.

Any other posters make the event?

I think lack of buzz can also be a sign of uncertainty or "I have heard this before" so I am not going to get
too excited or optimistic.

I remain the eternal optimist, but my attitude for this upcoming season is cautious optimism. As oft stated on the boards, we have heard the lines about excitement for new recruits and the potential of the team. There were no tough questions for either coach, but my sense with Mooney was one of unease. He seemed to be in a hurry to get through the program not knowing what he might get asked. After the presentation, I asked him about newcomers and filling holes in the starting line-up and the first name he mentioned was Wojcik. He emphasized recruitment of shooters and Wojcik fits that role, but he also like that Wojcik has a solid body to play immediately where several of the recruits will need some time in the weight room. If you have not been to one of these events, make the effort to go if you have any interest in talking one-on-one with any of the players. I credit Mooney with bringing in guys that are intelligent, personable and represent the school well.

great info, 73. thanks.
I think Wojcik makes a lot of sense at 2 guard. Glad Coach is talking him up. Nick is better suited at the 3, JJ better off the bench. Yates more a 3/4 until he shows he can handle.

I'm very curious to see Gustavson but we'll have to wait a while on that.

I am a diehard spider fan and supporter since I first enrolled at UR in 1975. I believe in the team good or bad. Yes, I am disappointed in the way the season ended the last few years but each year I have and will continue to bea supporter.

Agreed. Through thick and thin.

Mooney asked if there were any more questions, and I wanted to ask, "When are you going to abandon the match-up zone?" but I didn't have the guts. Sorry...

Not sure the exact count, but all seats were filled and many were left to stand; so it was packed. I would guess 150 people?

I was there.
Gotta admit 'just eye-balled it, but I'm thinkin like there was 'least 200 (countin women and chillins).
Seemed to me bout the same number of folks who was at the last nauguration, give or take a few here n there. Can't say fo sure cuz when I looked about sum them was runnin bout, you know, primpin and needin to relieve themselves and all.
But no doubt the most evah.

...at the last nauguration, oh, were people throwing bricks through windows and setting cars on fire
too?

Didn't see no bricks at the last nauguration (and I cud see everyone), but saw a lot in the Robins Center. Bricks wasn't sumthin you'd likely see at no nauguration. Where was you sittin? I've been to the last four and seen nary one. Don't matter tho, nuf bricks thrown up at the Robins Center to cover ten nauguations.

I was there and learned nothing more than I had already learned from press releases and this blog. The presentations by Nick and our girls BB player (forgot her name) were the highlight of the evening for me.

And while we're on the topic of bricks, maybe sumone kin help me with this. For sum reason, god only knows why, every now and then the older guys on the floor wearin stripped shirts blow a whistle and let players shoot from behind this line which I'd guess is jus say 15 feet from the circular metal thing with the mesh under it where the players want the ball to go thru and these older guys in the striped shirts don't even let the other players guard them. I've heard sum say it is the fowl line, by the way. Whatever. That's not my question. I'm jus curious why our guys throw more bricks from that line than anywhere else. I jus can't figure this out. Kin sumone help me git why this is so?

Ulla made a good guess about 150+. No room was left anyway. Subs and soft drinks.

I agree with 73CPA, Mooney seemed very relieved when the Q&A session was over.

Because they don’t care enough to put the time in practicing it. John Newman spent hours in the RC alone practicing his FTs. Nowdays they shoot threes constantly!

Who says the coach can't be creative when it comes to defensive schemes. A staged event of this type with the players was the perfect defense against any tough questions from attendees regarding the program!

I understand this, and I don’t know that I would’ve, either. Given that by most accounts Mooney is a truly good guy, nobody wants to see him “suffer,” but man... UR *COULD* get him out there in a controlled situation to at least explain *WHY* we are doing what we do, even if unsuccessfully.
