Shoot the Mason Monkey

You Mooney guys are such a bunch of clowns. K and Coastie, so predictable. Nowhere to be found when we win, ignorant comments when we lose. The refs have been just terrible. Embarrassing for the league.
And your a clown because you expect us to give CM accolades when he wins games against the most mediocre of teams. We beat 1 decent team all year and have lost to a handful of crap teams. Unless we win the tourney this year is just another total disappointment.

can we bottle the hate for a bit? Got a big one Friday. let's try to give them a real home court edge. It's all about getting top 4 seed. That's still in our control. I would have been surprised it we went 2-0 on this 2 game road trip. 1-1 is what we had to have.

Moving on to sixth place in the A-10, just where we belong Thanks CM for another great game plan, just like the others. Now 0 and 10 against this loser.
0 and 10? OMG that is pathetic. And GMU hasnt had a good team in 10 years.

the officiating was not the reason we lost by a looooooooong shot. First off, every foul called on TJ was legit. The first 2 offense fouls are things he just cant do. The wrap around was blatant - - you might get away with a little elbow wrap but he had his whole arm wrapped all the way up at the guys shoulders - - easy call that has to be made. The 2nd moving screen might as well have been the education video for the refs on theis years point of emphasis about screen and rolls that arent really rolls but are moving picks. again, its late in the season, that call has been being made all year and he can't be that obvious about it. More importantly, - - when you give up 93 points, get out rebounded by double, shoot 28% from 3, etc. etc. etc. you cant talk about officiating as if it mattered.

There were one or two good things tonight (blind squirrel??) - - we only turned it over 7 times and Nick!

I thought refs were poor for both teams. One reason for the disparity might be the number of threes we took vs the number of drives they took. We are not that great a 3 point shooting team but we seem to settle too often for a long three way before we need to. Mason shot very well from outside tonight, better than I thought they could. Mooney did leave TJ out a long time in the first half but we did catch up in the second half. Since they couldn't really stop TJ we should have been forcing the ball inside to him on every play. Although he made some threes he didn't get their big guy in trouble out there. If we had more fouls on him he scores less and we have a chance to score more inside. Playing Wood and Abaki seems useless to me. They contributed nothing tonight and won't be here next year. Doesn't seem like good coaching to me but most people here don't have a problem with these two getting minutes. They had little to do with us losing other than the fact that they don't really contribute.
Richmond plays best when they move the ball as quickly as possible without dribbling and wait for a good shot or a backdoor instead of hoisting threes right away.TJ is a great scorer and even better passer most of the time. He just tends to force inside sometimes by backing his man in while dribbling which slows the offense down considerably and causes the rest of the team to stand around too much.

Pretend I am a five year old who has never seen a basketball game before and explain to me why being out rebounded by double is bad. (Humor me, maybe you can send the post to Mooney as well).

I really want to like Abakah, he seems like a good guy. We just cannot pass the ball to him on offense. Nothing good happens there. When TJ is in the game we are pretty good. When he's not it ain't pretty.

I agree about Abakah. The other guys just need to know not to pass him the ball at this point. I find myself more frustrated with the passer than Kwesi at this point.
When you are slavish to the system then you pass into the high post to start the motion, regardless if it's TJ, Kwesi, or Stonehands McGillicudy. This to me is a real failure in our game planning, although to be fair, Kwesi's failure to secure the ball were underneath spots where the defense could easily collapse, not up top. Somehow he managed not to get credited with any turnovers in spite of two I saw him give away.

Paul must have some real deficiencies but I honestly can't see the downside. Give him some run.

We should be favored in every game the rest of the year. Win all of them and I guarantee we will finish no worse than second in the league.

It is a well established fact, that Kweisi sucks on offense, but he isn't giving us much if anything on defense as well. He gets pushed under the basket constantly.

In the 2nd half, when Cline was coming out after his 3rd or 4th foul, Mooney sent in JJ to replace Cline. The 5 guard lineup may be better both offensively and defensively than having Wood or Kwesi at the 5 at this point.

The fouls had everything thing to do with why we lost. Nick and Cline were out with two for the last 8 to 10 minutes of the first half when the game was lost. Money should have put them back in instead of giving up a 13 point deficit away from home. Huge coaching error. Mason 29 of 32 and UR 4 of 8 free throws.

Hey TURNPIKE, I am there win or lose. Just got home from the Fairfax EagleBank disaster. Drunk GMOO fans in front of me threw up all over other GMOO fans in front of them. That was the highlight of the game. I still had to sneak out with 4 minutes left out of embarrassment.

Dont agree 100%. It certainly hurt on offense but we gave up 93 points. Their guards owned us and we didnt ever TRY a different defense. Maddening.

Haha.....did they really throw up? Jeez. That's not a great place to watch a game, especially that one.

But did Mooney do anything to alter the last result against these guys? Tell me that. They pasted our D with dribble penetration last time and did exactly the same thing this time. He changed NOTHING. They are going to score 100 pts. You Mooney ass kissers are clowns. You wouldnt know a good coach if he kissed you on the lips.
Same GMU game plan as at RC, same GMU execution, same good good shooting, same taking it to the paint, and same agressive rebounding. They did everything they wanted to against us. Where were Mooney's adjustments from game 1 for game 2? I don't accept the idea that they have better athletes than we do.

Pretty obvious we gave up after the technical on Mooney, the players were too beat down by the refs. After the tech GMU scored 23 to our 7. I can't blame them looking at the foul disparity, GMU shot 24 more free throws than us. It really sucks when the fouls are so lopsided and our players are so limited due to the way the refs are calling the game. GMU took advantage of the way the game was being called, and we didn't.
Not sure of the stats, but that pattern has played out several times this year??? I know in the 2nd half of the GW game at RC we must have had 15 fouls while GW was stuck at 2 deep into 2nd half.

Not sure of all the dynamics but have to believe that part of it is teams attacking us in the paint and getting fouled. Smart game plans have teams taking it to the hoop against us.

We can't blame the refs but so much.

Mooney has made a statement about PF. If he can't bring more to the floor than what Kwesi's assets & liabilities are, I'm guessing PF will see little time until he graduates. Sad - I just can't believe he isn't at a minimal as good as Kwesi. I mean is Kwesi really that much better than Paul to keep Paul on the bench almost every game? Would rather see PF get Kwesi's minutes with hopes for preparing Paul for "potential" time next year.

PF absolutely should get Kweesi minutes from here forward. Also Wood looks lost. Sherod needs to play 30, Buck 30, Dre, Fore, and Cline 35. JJ and Kirby 10 each, PF 5, Pistokache 5(yes I went there). Wood and Abakah put on ice.

This is my point. I have a difficult time believing there's that vast a disparity, but perhaps there is. Alternatively, CM sees something in kwesi that I don't. Both seem equally plausible. In a game like last night, I think you are obligated to try something different when you get down by 13+ points and are forced to sit TJ. Either you let TJ play and foul out or you try a different rotation.

Question - why did Buck get a T after fouling out? Did he say something he shouldn't have? Was he too slow leaving the court? At that point it was adding insult to injury with GMU already blowing us off the court?

Agree with everything you said.

Kirby had a great 4 minutes.

Transfer seniors Wood and Abakah should have the last two seats on the bench, anyone taller than 6'5" should play before either one of these two guys. They will be gone in probably six games. Unless Mooney's goal is the CBI, all underclassmen should be getting their playing time to have any kind of opportunity to develop into at least passable reserves.

Some sensible coaching strategy dispensed in this thread. Shame that none of these common sense maneuvers can be found courtside.

Not a remark on whether or not refereeing had an impact on the game, but just wondering:

How common is it for a team to commit 7 total fouls in a game? Maybe one of you stay gurus can help with this, but this has to be a pretty rare number.
