Season Tickets???

This is ridiculous.
I’d bet we all have alumni friends, well most of us, that are very financially
successful. I know a couple that donate a fair amount of money to the school and
are huge supporters of the Spiders. They also have absolutely no interest in being
on this board. Not their thing.
If they thought the administration wasn’t interested in winning they would make a lot
of noice, and they would be heard.
I enjoy being on this board, but some of the naive and in some way narcissistic thoughts
are just plane silly.
As a whole, our fanbase largely is what many of our rivals portray it to be. And I hate to say that but it's basically true. We're an old, don't-rock-the-boat, aw-shucks-we-lost-but-I'm-proud-of-our-kids group that doesn't prioritize winning as its top demand. That's a fact. When the majority of your fanbase keeps coming back year in and year out no matter the outcome, what incentive is there for those at the top to care about the outcome? That's why unfortunately we deserve what we get. Because enough of us have not demanded anything better.

FMM cares and stirred the boat. Like those dudes.

Just out of curiosity, do you feel like our sports programs and athletic department (in general) are being running as well as they can be?

I feel, considering that we are a small private university, it’s being ran pretty well. Do I think it
could be run better-absolutely. But, there are Michigan fans that don’t like how their program is
being run because they don’t beat Ohio State in football.
I just feel that some of the speculation on here is always to the negative; leaving a lot of
“behind the scene” donors and supporters out of consideration.

As an interesting side note to this, when I renewed I wanted to see if I could add tickets to my renewal. So I went through a series of questions posed by the online bot which ultimately generated a notification by email that someone would be in touch to help me with my request. That was two weeks ago.

One way the university could show an interest in taking athletics seriously is to at least be responsive to fans who want to potentially give them money. Seems like first day stuff.

Anyone who tries to add more season tickets following back-back 20-loss seasons is immediately flagged as spam, because who would do that? Your message most likely ended up in the trash...

I recognize the premise seems ridiculous. I was looking “for a friend.”

I get invited to all the alumni athlete events and plenty of other correspondence from UR, so I know they have my correct information. I've had ST's for 14 years. Almost every year I have to reach out to the ticket office to force my renewal after the "deadline" has come and gone without word from them. I don't make a big stink about it and it always works out. I don't think most ST holders have that experience, but it's always been puzzling to me that they haven't been able to fix the problem. Again, seems like first day stuff.

"We're extremely sorry, Mr. Broccolli (sic), we inadvertently filed your renewal forms with our athletic department vegetable order forms instead of season ticketholder folders. We hope you will lettuce make it up to you somehow!

-Love, Spider Athletics"

Look, not local to go to games but if so probably wouldn't being just my wife and I these days. Though I see where if kids are involved, no doubt renewing your tickets is a must if they enjoy the experience.

Michigan has among the top 50 strictest enrollment standards and SAT/ACT scores on average...how'd they get so good?

Not sure what point u r making in context of this thread but those admittance standards certainly don’t apply for athletes at Michigan.

lots of room to hide a few lower scores for athletes, and as a state school (large) they can get many more walk-ons

It's easy to look up. Google it...

Top 5 for SAT score admissions. Granted, a hair below 1000, but better than almost anyone else. I am The Dude!

And they have an actual scholarship football squad so there's a much larger sample size as well. I don't just say this crap off the top of my head. Join D1 in football and see how long those admission standards so many here hold up as superior to everyone else last...

Michigan has never won a NCAA football national championship. We have. So there.

Don't take my word for it...you can find it if you look and you won't have to look very far...

Nothing to do with the thread. Just following the hijacking because, ya know, you don't wanna look, but you can't resist.

U seem to be talking 2 different things. I disputed your strictest enrollment standards comment not anything about SAT averages. I know for a fact u can get into Michigan with the bare minimum ncaa requirements especially if u play hoops or football. Don’t get me wrong I respect Michigan & their hoops & football players across d1 match up great academically I bet vs other programs. For instance their hoops transcripts would blow the doors off vcu. But I would love u to show me a link that says they require scores above NCAA minimum for athletic admittance. As far as score averages I have no idea and don’t care. it’s a great school so props to them, their women in Olympic sports also likely pull those averages up mightily.

I’m getting completely lost. So are there only four (or 49?) general student bodies in the NCAA Division 1 that have higher academic standards than the athletic department of the university of Michigan?

I agree. There are no schools that don't make room for 4 star athletes if they can squeak them in. Just happens that they get a lot of them. They do have a high SAT average for their athletes though. Only point I was making.

Fab 5 ???

Sorry, just to be accurate, Michigan has won 11 football national championships. Last one in 1997 when they were voted #1 by AP after big Rose Bowl win, even though Coaches Poll gave #1 spot to Nebraska. But back in the days when polls determined it, not playoffs.

Only 1-AA/FCS teams have won a NCAA Football National Championship...

For Instance, Florida won the BCS National Championship, We won the NCAA National Championship.

It is getting more difficult for me to say this, but we won the college championship, they won the corporate championship. ;)
