Sal update

Yes, the post about blocking out and rebounding, and then mine about keeping your man in front of you are pretty basic. I think the point behind these is that defense, toughness, rebounding - these are culture/day one things that a coach needs to emphasize and re-inforce. I don't think this is happening, and I think the fact that guys like Nick, Gilly and Golden (and now apparently Francis) have 0 competition for playing time - so they can slide. We need a new culture. If we are playing our toughest OOC ever we will find out if this has been implemented, or we are status quo. We should be able to score, will we have guys that will provide full body help, and fight through screens and get loose balls?

Actually, its a knock on both.

Everyone does realize a new coach will lead to massive player turn over, and probably an entirely new style of play and players?

Well, we are coming off two straight 20 loss seasons in year 15 of this coach but god forbid we change what we are doing. 10/10 for the post though.

We always hear "year 15 of this coach" as if the previous 14 were all terrible, and the sweet 16 and back-to-back tourneys never happened. I know they were awhile back, but they did happen. It hasn't been 14 horrible years. The last 2, yes, but not all 14.

The year 15 remark was more to emphasize that Mooney has been given plenty of time and patience and $ and he produced two 20 loss seasons in years 14 and 15. You can argue whether he has been given enough resources/support, etc but the fact remains that he hasn't been to the tournament in almost a decade. I would argue that many coaches could have gotten us numerous trips to the Dance during that timeframe but that's just my opinion just like some folks feel like Mooney is the best we can do as a Coach.

Right Choppin, if you bring in a dynamic, positive coach that can sell his vision, you keep most of the guys you want. Would have loved to seen Wes Miller or Nathan Davis this season. I actually think Roussell would do a better job with the guys than Mooney. Seems to have a plan and vision that he can sell and implement.

Exactly. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with the program. A plan and vision are great things. Too bad the men's program has neither.

My point ,mansplainer, was that everyone on here always praises the kids and dumps on Mooney. Obviously both are the issue, and it will get worse before it gets better.

Times Dispatch article says Sal in up to 215 (195 last year) with goal of 225. Lifting 3 to 4 days a week. If he can get to 225 by beginning of season I would expect his minutes to go up a lot. The article also said that Matt Grace has gotten a lot stronger.
