Gus Lee, DB for the Spiders, had been missing since Saturday. He was found deceased this morning - no additional details yet. Still being investigated by the police. The team is devastated, and I cannot imagine what his family may be experiencing, especially given this time of year. Thoughts and prayers to the Lee family and to the football team and staff.

I can't imagine anything worse for the parents, certainly our prayers are with them.

Really awful. It was a suicide, according to the medical examiner, per The Collegian. More proof that you never know what someone else is going through. Thoughts to his family.

I pray for his family and those close to him. It is tragic anytime a young person dies and especially when
they feel life is no longer worth living. God bless the Lee family and all those close to Gus.

hug your love ones everyday , you never know if its your last chance , makes sports seem very small at the moment , heart broken for his family .

Couldn’t have said it better. Very tragic news. Heart breaks for everyone.

Terribly sad news, and it happens far too often. We had the same thing in Blue Hen sports, and knowing the family, I was told there were absolutely no warning signs and was totally unexpected. The human mind works in mysterious ways. My best to the Spiders.

Awful, awful news. This is at least the second suicide of a university football player this year that comes to mind (Washington State QB being the other), and as you say, you never know what someone else is going through. I hope everyone gets the support they need. Life is a long haul with many very rough patches, even for those of us who are doing pretty well. I love the "hug your loved ones" comment. Try to hug those who you might not love specifically -- support from strangers can be helpful at times as well.

Have no idea what lead to this, but it is a good time for all of us to consider how we treat those around us. My thoughts, prayers, and best wishes for the family, friends, team, and all of those suffering. To Gus RIP young man.

This is awful. Just a kid who had his whole life ahead of him. Shocking news

Did we not have another football player 4-5 years ago who was suffering from the
aftermath of having several concussions, end his life. I remember he was a lineman.

yes, do not recall his name right now. the third leading cause of death among 15-24 year olds.

Kurt Schmitz died of a heart condition. While he was suffering physically and mentally from his concussions, and emotionally after quitting football, he did not have CTE and did not take his own life.

The tradegy is how these things have become all so common. There was a time when this was a very rare thing. Humans are animals. When cornered and one feel there is no out, awful decisions are made. I have been in a mentoring program for thirty plus years and I am amazed at what the youth of the world think is the worse thing that can happen to them yet appears small to me. Then I have try to see it the way they perceive it.

I pray for peace with the family, friends and teammates of this young man. Even the darkest hours only have sixty minutes in them. Be encouraged Spiders. We get through it together.

The funeral will be in Vienna, VA at The Church of the Holy Comforter this Saturday for any that would like to attend. No time has been given yet, will update with that when I find out.

but he had to quit football, if I remember, due to the concussions. Did the heart condition come out later?

Yes, but you said he ended his life. Just trying to clear that up. See 32counter's post. He was undoubtedly suffering.
Thanks for clearing that up, I just remember the concussions and having to stop playing for sure and then that he died not long after stopping football. Interesting that no CTE found and heart issues due to high blood pressure at 22 years of age.

very tough, most think of their 4,5-7 years in college as some of the best in your life and breaks my heart to think of what he was enduring, really not fair.
