Ryland Hall was scheduled for a refresh and some upgrades like an elevator, but this is the first I'm hearing that they've expanded the scope of the project and are going to add 40% more square footage. Plan is to move classics and philosophy over from North Court to create a humanities center in Ryland. The freed-up space in North Court will become residential.

I love Ryland Hall, had many classes there. Walking out from under the arches, across the quad and then following the old path through the gully and past the barracks to the Refectory was a daily pleasure.
The barracks- can anyone imagine our students living in those fire traps today?
I still remember the look on my parents faces when they saw where I was going to
have to live,
It was fun, and horrible at the same time.

The barracks were not used as dorms in my era, but I had several classes in them. Cold and dank.

The Refectory food improved considerably my sophomore year (1973-74) when they added a deli bar.
