Rhode Island in game

Memo to coach mooney: you can't stop penetration by having your unathletic players chasing their athletes all over the court. Play a normal tight zone. That is all.

This game is just more of the same. Shooting over 50% as I type this and really not even in the game because yer another team is shooting high 50’s against us. If you always let the other team shoot 55% and you concede rebounding battle before it starts, how can you possibly win ?

Obviously.

St Joe's with 12 at the half and Mason with 17 at half. some ugly ball in the a10 this year.

They will get their numbers up when they place us. We are good for what ails any offense.

The A-10 is horrible. 15th ranked conference last I checked computers. That’s really bad as we have been 6 th and 7th in years past. We certainly did our part against the 300th rated OOC schedule.

What site are you checking that gives you the conference ratings?

It may not be dead on accurate because it been a few days since I looked but it was realtimerpi.com

And I know RPI is out. I was just looking for a general reference of how bad it’s really going for A-10

We’ve reached peak Mooney. He just had Gilyard intentionally foul a URI player off an inbound with 2:31 left which gives our best player 4 fouls. WTF was that?

Meanwhile, I watched R-MC score 117 points and hit 17 three's (55%) tonight. Very entertaining.

Also, ran into Darien Brothers at the R-MC game, and had a quick chat. What does it say about our program when he would rather watch R-MC win big while he is in town (he plays in Hungary) than watch his Spiders crash and burn against the RI Rams?

Wow, wow. That is an incredible statement that Brothers was at the RMC game. And I don't blame him one bit.

Was Hardt at the RMC game too?

Darien’s brother plays at RMC. Hardt was actually at the UR game. I saw him.

Hardt and PQ had a long conversation at halftime. They weren't exactly exchanging high fives.

My takes:
  • Julius Johnson adds nothing at all, and we are a far, far better team with Goose in the game instead of Julius. Goose had some good minutes.
  • WE ACTUALLY SWITCHED DEFENSES, AND EVEN A SWITCH TO A TERRIBLE, AMORPHOUS 2-3 STRAIGHT ZONE WHERE THE GUYS DIDN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT TO DO AND KEPT GIVING UP THE FOUL LINE AND SHORT CORNER MANAGED TO SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE OUR DEFENSIVE RESISTANCE. It must come as shock and awe to Mooney that switching defenses may change the flow of the game.
  • We had a real chance to make the game interesting after the Gilyard, Wojcik, and Goose consecutive threes in the second half, and then the next time down, the ball went to Cayo, he dribbled around Melo-style for 5 minutes and forced up a horrible fall-away jumper, and that was that. I thought Cayo did a very poor job of balancing aggressiveness with good shot-selection. That said, this is definitely part of his learning curve, and I'd rather him make mistakes of aggression than mistakes of passivity, and from a meta level I'm OK with him having the leash to learn that in the heat of battle this year. But I did think his shot selection really hurt us in both halves.
  • Golden needs to stop being so damned soft on both ends.
  • I'd like more Sal as well, at the expense of Yates.

Apparently it was a long day at work. Had no idea initially who was being referred to.

Now I know and here is another alliteration- Gotta play Andre!

DaMan, are you really here bragging about a win over 3 win LaSalle, at home, and in come back fashion? If so, congrats I guess. You really showed the RPI in you with that response!

No, was just commenting about a silly comment. Really that was all. Nothing to brag about for sure.

It was an ugly game that our guys finally decided they could win and did win because the other team sucked. Our guys just didn't suck as bad on a Wed night. All they had to do was not continue to play stupid ball.

If you think I'm happy about a 6 point win over a sub 300 squad you're nutz. It was crude but finally effective to not take a sh>>ty loss. Mooney needs to take a page out of that book.
