Last weekend we were in Monterey CA. My daughter (UR Grad, cheerleader) ran in the Big Sur trail marathon.

I was going down the hall at the Marriott in my Richmond sweatshirt and UR Football hat when a fellow and his wife stopped me. They were from TN.

He said his son was being recruited by UR for football. I didn't pry much and ask his name (probably should have).

Our conversation centered around the value of the UR experience for student athletes and "the best of both worlds" (his words) to get a quality education and play college football at a high level.

I mumbled something about how we weren't happy about how the season was going and that Richmond Football will come around.

It was like he didn't hear me and went back to the talk track with my daughter about small class sizes, professors knowing your name and the rigor of a UR academic experience.

He was very excited about Richmond and they were looking forward to a visit in about a month.

It was very encouraging to hear the parents perspective on the UR athletic experience and how recruits and their families focus on the big picture. Probably the kinda kid we want in the program!
