"We developed some necessary scar tissue in the Bahamas. We will be better for it in March."

Is this a Buy Game for the Terriers?

They beat Hampton & GA Southern at home.
Lost to Clemson & So Carolina away.

We will see at UGA tomorrow.

Well, we average giving up about 80 points to good teams. So we should be fine as long as we score 90 or 95.

Don’t worry, after todays game we will be ranked around 320th in rebounding margin. But apparently there’s no correlation to on court success.

Oh, and we also worked at rebounding in the off-season a ton apparently. Not kidding.

So, if we somehow go down to Wofford and lose. Do the wheels start coming off this team? Do the seniors start looking at their individual legacies, young guys start really vying for more time in what could be a rebuilding year? Players start tuning the Moonman out?

Or is everyone loyal soldiers that will go down with the ship?

A more accurate question would begin with "If we somehow go down to Wofford and win..."

There is strong loyalty to CM amongst his current and former players. So I don't think the team implodes nor do I think seismic changes occur that cause shockwaves of change and any associated discontent. There's a consistent theme not to change anything up too drastically, which would include locker room behavior I suspect.

And, yet you get on here and continue to post non stop about it. I guess you go to a restaurant and announce to everyone how much you hate a certain food while complaining about it non stop, and then order it.
I think the analogy would be him writing a terrible Yelp review, going back to the restaurant hoping things changed, and then writing more Yelp reviews.

And on that note, I’d like to read Eight Legger’s Waffle House Yelp review…

The coaches and team are smart enough to know it's a 31 game schedule, and there is A LOT of basketball left.

no irony at all that Mooney and Bob Black have bagged on their beloved Eagles regularly. In fact I bet it’s the lead on the radio show.

Tick tock. This was your mantra last year until we reached the end and then suddenly wasn't a lot of basketball left. Apparently the team and coaches have the same urgency you do in regards to winning games. There is always tomorrow, except when their isn't anymore.

That is always some delicious irony. They will complain about how poorly the Eagles play and fail to see the image staring directly at them in the mirror. Huge cognitive dissonance going on there. Freud would have fun analyzing that.

Are you familiar with George Santayana? If not, go check him out. Do his beliefs apply to Mooney?

Do you ever get tired of having to make up excuses every year for this program? At what point is the staff held accountable for simply not winning enough? And yes, I know they went 24-7 2 years ago and were squarely on the bubble. But how many years does this staff get to make the NCAA tournament? A decade? 12 years? 2 decades? At some point they have to be accountable, right?

Exactly, 4700 and the team are not worried about the now when the now is losses. Hope he had a good flight back.

What I found myself chuckling at is that I don't listen to Mooney and Blackie anymore. That is hilarious that moon bags on the Eagles, then when Hardt comes on once to take callers they shut that down and ran for the hills. I remember being in school and calling into Tarrant's shows. He did not duck callers or the obvious. Straight shooter, and held the players accountable. That may be part of Mooney's problem, lack of accountability for his shortcomings, and lack of holding players accountable with consequence - other than his golden rule: "Don't be a Jerk!!!" - unless you are Gilly, the end of the bench, and Golden being one to the refs on every call against Richmond :):):)

Let’s go! Glad there’s one person who likes this program on the board.
Still looking for the Dislike button.

We all like the school and team for the most part. "Mooney's Program" is another story. The DNA reads like this: soft, no accountability, no rebounding, no defense, fade down the stretch. What's to like?

I hate all of that too but will always choose to cheer for the Spiders.

Except for a not-so-undercover VCU fan or two on the board, I don't think you're going to find anyone on here that doesn't cheer for the Spiders. Just fans expressing their feelings/thoughts on the program but always cheering for the team.

Well sure, doesn’t mean that’s a good strategy. The extrapolation right now puts us at 13-18 if we continue this trend. That would be good reason to shake something up of significance.

I firmly believe that this mindset is a large part of the problem with Mooney ball. No urgency.

Mooney has always preached his version of slow and steady. Don't get excited, we may have lost 7 in a row, but we tried, and there are still 13-games left. If we just keep doing what we do, I promise it will get better. So what, we lost 1, or 2, or 3, or 12, it is okay, we still have a lot of basketball to be played. We are on the right path. Slow and steady, don't take too many chances. Don't stick you neck out and make a mistake, the plan is working. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Mooney sets a tone of serious mediocrity. Problem is that once again, the team is not on the right path, and the plan isn't working unless your goal is to be middle of the pack. Blah, monotone, don't get your ire up attitude leads to malaise. Many on here have said that Mooney ball takes the dog out of the athletes. Malaise is one of the main culprits. The laisse-faire mindset sends a message that winning isn't really one of the main goals. Out of the mouth some might say that winning is important, but the messaging and behavior are completely contradictory.

We competed does not equate to we are going to kick some ass and get the W. Mooney should make it clear with his version of; this is unacceptable. The players need to get pissed off, and say we are tired of being blah, and dammit we are going to play 40-minutes like we want to win. I think that many of the fans on this board would have a better outlook if we saw some fire, and some desire to not be 3-4 in your 5th and 6th year. I'm not impressed by mouth running and whining, show some grit and bring it!

Instead, what we get is "there is a lot of basketball left." That mealy-mouthed frame of mind allows one to be somewhat okay with losing 14-games while we dick around all season. This should not be okay. There should be appropriate consequences for players and coaches.

Technically, you are right, there is a lot of ball to be played, but, the smart money would bet on another 18-14 vomitorium. This team would benefit from a heavy dose of attitude adjustment. They are not going to win as they could without some urgency.

Back on the topic, I actually feel pretty good about this one (I know, I know, we SHOULD feel good about this one). Regardless, I look to Tyler and Nathan to have big games on Wednesday and put us back in the win column.

I hope so. I really had planned to drive down the quick 365 miles from RVA to Spartanburg for this game .. but going to be doing the ESPN+ thing this go around. Hopefully Coach reads the Lineup 3.0 thread and gets the turnaround going. (Crazy sports year for me given the Braves were 52-55 on Aug 1 and then 3 months later I was in Houston for Game 6 so impossible for me not to remain just a touch optimistic).

The point is no one is a fan of “reruns” that are not entertaining. All fans want wins and when the team isn’t delivering them, there will be complaints. As most posters are saying, what we aren’t seeing is the will to win at all costs. We hoped we would see a team playing with a chip on its shoulder and instead we have seen basically a repeat of last year. I would like to see a list of reasons why UR should keep Mooney. The basic rationale seems to be (1) He went to an Ivy League school (2) The players graduate (3) PQ is a supporter and perhaps (4) The players like him. The most perplexing may be #4 because what do the players see that we don’t. The only thing I can come up with is the super seniors love him because they have played some crazy percentage of the possible minutes because the team had no one better. I guess history could repeat itself with the current class that mostly redshirted. What were they promised? Of course the problem is once again there is a void in the inside game. Grant is a key piece to the Mooney scheme. There is currently no replacement for him. So all the fans are going to go through another “rebuild” with the same coach leading the charge with the same known deficiencies. Not surprised many are looking for the remote.

I'm already impressed by your travel budget.

The bottom line is that if our players are content to come here and spend 4,5, or 6 years never making the NCAAs, we are recruiting the wrong kind of playerd.
