Slightly off topic, but interesting article in the Virginian Pilot today about the CUSA losing out in new TV contract negotiations. Will cost each school between $500-600k per annum.

Wonder if the Monarchs are regretting that move yet?

the separation continues, I think there may be another shift within the nest ten years

how many 24 hour, full-time, sports networks are out there now? one of them has to like cusa football better than the national spelling B or the wnba, i would think. again though, who do you get to pay for that manure broadcasting, rusty's car wash and massage parlor in tupelo, ms or wadkins funeral home in portsmouth, va? within the fbs there are haves and have nots, some doing very well and others, just starving and losing money faster than mike tyson. has to be another explosion at some point.

Gotta remember that some critical CUSA members have left for the AAC since the original TV deal with CBS and Fox was signed in 2011.Memphis,Houston,Central Fla,Tulsa,Tulane and SMU bolted for the AAC and in their place are ODU,FIU,UNCC,UTSA on top of LaTech and UAB.Poor UAB.Not a very appealing league with the loss of some notable big boys.

Not sure why Coastal bolted for the Sunbelt.Joe's a biz guy.Cant see that it makes any biz sense.Sunbelt receives next to nothing from their TV deal and also less in the future.

Current FBS model isn't sustainable for non bcs schools. Once the Sports cable bubble bursts these schools are going to be in a world of hurt.

Its ridiculous to see these schools jump from fcs to fbs, most programs are paying more money to lose more games.

CUSA, Mac are closer to Caa/mvc then Sec/b10, Sun Belts worse. I expect the CAA, MVC, big sky etc to merge with the non bcs schools sometime in the future.

What are the goals for these FBS teams outside of the power conferences?

- To not lose a lot of money
- Get a few buy games to fill up the coffers
- Hopefully win 6 games to get an invite to an exhibition game that no one watches

I'm not saying FCS is big time football but at least there's some cost containment built into it through fewer scholarships and we actually get to compete for a championship.

I was personally disappointed back in the late '70's and early '80's when we could not generate enough support, financial and political, to stay in 1-A football. In retrospect, our administration, athletic administration, and our boosters appear to have hit the nail on the head. Our Division I athletic program, with FCS football, is another component of our fine university that shines. Imagine what the new JMU coach is going to do in three years when the Barneys are still in the FCS? Maybe they can build a new chemistry building behind the small bleachers that will extend out over those lower stands? Then the half-tin-can stadium won't look ridiculous!

C'mon Sun Belt - don't you want to expand into Harrisonburg?

that is a ton of money and it keeps growing and widening the difference between the power 5 and all others. think that the fcs schools going fbs dream of being in the big time and think that is where they are going......DUH. also think that some feel that if in the fbs, they might possibly get the call to join a power 5 conf should they all decide to go to more members. who knows what is going to happen but really see no need to add schools to split that money with when you can keep more of it yourself. $30 million per school on top of tv, home games, seat licenses, giving, etc., etc. not sure what a sec team makes on a home game but with 85,000 to 100,000+ seats, parking, concessions, probably brings in multi-millions each saturday and think most big schools have 8 or so home games per year. "real" money comes from minimum levels of giving just to get the right to purchase tickets and mucho money to get the best seats, parking, etc. college football in the sec is most definitely an ATM machine and why a guy like saban gets paid whatever he wants. then you have odu and they are probably drowning in debt trying to keep up just with cusa.
