No Spider football this fall

Well based on the demands maybe its time to adopt the European model. In Europe, collegiate arthletics almost are completely nonexistent. There are few athletic scholarships, and the universities' reputations are based purely on its academic prowess and overall success, not with respect to the athletic programs.

I have way too much Spiders gear to subscribe to this concept. Also, I have no desire to be anything like Europe.

How about a rephrase? Also thought of the negative connotation of using the word "Europe" when I was thinking more of the UK Oxford or Cambridge model so will rephrase to the concept of playing sports in college "for the love of the game"......................

The states in green and yellow have it right. You can come up with many reasons why those states are still gonna play but the bottom line is that football means more down south. People need football this fall with all of the BS that is happening in our country. At some point we have to move on and accept the fact that this virus is out there and you can’t just stay in a bubble inside your house. If you want to fine, but me and a lot of other people are gonna live our lives like normal. I have a lot of theories about what’s really going on with this virus and I won’t get into it right now but football is an essential business. Like it or not.

Just like concussions, right? If guys don’t want them don’t throw over the middle...

sounds like all the same arguments. I guess I’ll leave it to others, but I don’t need to see people die just so I can watch football. Particularly college students that aren’t getting paid.

In very curious as to what percentage of college students have died from the virus. And one would have to be very naive to believe that these college students aren't getting together anyway. Did you see all the beach and spring break pictures DT? Most of the 18 to 22 year olds could care less about social distancing. If anyone is going to die, it's the folks watching not the ones playing.I

It's all about money and liability, don't kid yourself.

You cant just say college kids are going to be OK so lets go to school or let's play. Teachers, coaches, staff, etc. etc. will come in contact with the infected (but not in danger) students and get it and they are not nearly as safe! If I am a 60 year old professor (or even a 40 year old one), I don't want to trust a bunch of 20 year old college students will do the right things to protect ME! This is why so many schools (especially high schools) have been reversing course on in person learning - - - teachers and school staff opting out and that is all abort their own safety!!!

If you look at the new CDC article out yesterday, I believe, out of the total 153k deaths in the US only 6% (9200) are strictly Covid related. The rest have underlying factors, some more than one factor, with old age being a major contributor.

23 - I'd suggest you read this article that talks about the 9200 number you cite:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...new-coronavirus-death-toll-conspiracy-theory/
The Washington Post? Key word in your link is politics. Both sides play it. You elect to read and believe the liberal media, WaPo, and I don't. Why hasn't the CDC come out and said anything against this 6%? I guess the 99% covid survival rate is false also? It would be nice if the media put their emphasis on the positive.

You expect the CDC to respond to any & all conspiracy theories? I’m all for being positive, but cherry picking random thoughts doesn’t mean it’s an accurate picture.

If you haven’t been affected, count your blessings. This disease is real and the effects are real. I hope as many people as possible can be lucky enough not to personally know the impact.

I try to be positive also, and I try to read/watch/listen to sources from both ends. One thing for sure they're all biased, which is a major concern. IMHO, One concern about the media being "positive" when reporting the effects of this virus is the current large number that ignore the virus and act as though there is nothing going on.

Discounting covid because many covid deaths included another factor is stupid. Sorry, but it is.

People who die from AIDS die because their immune system stops functioning and they become susceptible to any number of ailments that otherwise they'd recover from. But because they have AIDS, they die. So should we say that no one has actually died of AIDS? You can play this game with a ton of diseases.

The bottom line is that most of these people would still be alive, except that they got covid.

That said, it's obvious that most people under a certain age who get this end up fine. The problem is that you can't isolate people from each other enough to ensure that you don't infect anyone over 50.

To bring this back to football, what exactly is the plan for these teams and leagues that are playing a few games in the fall? Everyone else is planning to play in the spring, so are they forcing 3 or 4 fall games and then sitting out the spring season, or are they doing both?

What is happening at the FBS level? I assume there will be no bowl games or playoffs since some leagues are playing now and most are waiting until spring.

As of now, they are still planning to have bowl games and the CFP, without the Big 10 or Pac 12.
Those conferences will have their silly spring season without any of their NFL-quality talent.

This is nonsensical. What is the benefit for a school like Mercer to playing a 3-game season now as opposed to waiting to play a full season in the spring?

FCS vs. FBS lines, via 5Dimes: 9/12/20

-EKU +37.5 at West Virginia
-The Citadel +20 at South Florida
-Campbell +37.5 at Georgia Southern
-Austin Peay +27.5 at Pitt
-Missouri State +43.5 at Oklahoma
-Houston Baptist +37.5 at Texas Tech

Why did Pitt drop us and then add Austin Peay? They dropped Richmond prior to the CAA cancelling the season.

No the CAA cancellation was well before Austin Peay was added. The games aren't even on the same date.
