Former Henrico High and Old Dominion kicker Ricky Segers has been accepted by the University of Richmond and is expected to kick for the Spiders this season as a graduate transfer.
He graduated from ODU last spring and will work toward a master's degree at UR. In May, Segers said he hoped to transfer to Richmond.
Segers was ODU's first-team kicker in 2014 before suffering a knee injury that limited him last year. He made 2 of 3 field goal tries and 26 of 27 PAT attempts in 2014.
Peter Yoder kicked for Richmond last season as a junior and made 13 of 17 field goal attempts. After being named second team All-CAA, he left the program for reasons unrelated to football.
Segers said he also considered Towson before committing to UR. He will compete with redshirt sophomore Griffin Trau, who did not attempt a FG last season. Trau made 8 of 9 PAT tries.
The Spiders went 10-4 last season, when they shared the CAA championship and advanced to the FCS semifinals. With 15 starters returning, the Spiders are expected to be the CAA favorite this season. CAA media day is July 26, in Baltimore.
