Looks as if we are a very consistent team.
I know I pledged I wouldn't comment on MBB threads this year, but that was an absolute softball and I couldn't stop myself from swinging at it.
Well, the graphic was wrong at least, lol. They finally updated it with 11.7 seconds left. I still can't fathom what i just watched.

I was hoping to feel more confident about our chances in the pillow fight in DC but we very nearly gave that one away, shocking I know.
Didn't watch. But Mooney is terrible when he tries to foul to prevent the 3. Always does it too early, extending the game. Again, just not well coached. If you are gonna do that strategy, you have got to coach them up on how and when to foul.
Another road win finally...but u can tell why those 2 teams r near the bottom.
Just in last minute....Lasalle has us dead to right swith trap in backcourt and they purposely take the jump ball instead when it was our possession. Then us not knowing the rules or forgetting the rules on inbounding when it was a dead ball and give it right back. Plus it was both Tyne and Roche. Then the Lasalle guy puts up maybe the worst shot of all time down 1 throwing the ball over the basket. Comedy of errors.
But...1 thing I did like we set up Roche with a 3 off set play after timeout late...big bucket to put us up 4. We rarely get Roche those off set plays esp inbounds.
Also Mooney shortened his bench tonight, tho I get why with Walz rolling.

The last two wins have been the result of better guard play and both scoring.
Tanner is also playing better and has some good moments. Walz is more consistent

Seriously, WTF was that? I said the same thing you wrote. Never seen a worse attempted game-winner. It was hilariously bad.
I think it was just trying to get the ref to call a shooting foul with no actual attempt to get the ball in the basket

also doesn't hurt that we were playing the two other helpless 200+ NET teams in the conference. The pillow fight tune up week!
Good to get a win but again, obvious that we were watching two +200 ranked teams. A few things that stood out to me:
- Walz - 33 minutes, 11 points, 11 rebs (including 4 offensive), 6 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks -- he has really played good basketball lately and pushed Soulis and especially Beagle down the depth chart
- Another inexcusable rules violation on the inbounds play, Mooney needs to answer for these failures but something tells me we won't hear much
- Tanner - he has a long ways to go, especially on defense, but when he's aggressive he has some nice moves to get to the basket and has shown he can rebound well at times too

The ref told Tyne don’t move and Tyne should have motioned to Roache the change.

Walz was great I thought, tho the 1 rebound he missed was the worst. Not his fault. All coaching style. He took a shot from the elbow, immediately turned to run back on D. Missed shot & ball bounced back literally right back to where he was. He could have not moved and gotten the rebound. Lasalle actually had to move to go corral the ball. Every other Spidre was already back, Walz was last one. It made no sense to me. Anyone else see that play? Just rolled my eyes. Something we're used to.
Also not sure how a 20-year coach keep running into not knowing the rules. I doubt he was asked postgame. idk if Tyne and Roche did it themselves - possible - but it was a deadball after a jump ball possession, very easily could have been called in from the sideline too.
Yes, ref clearly told can't run baseline which is same as the baseline pass to Roche. But Carolina there wasn't a timeout. very brief stoppage after the jump ball possession arrow. Enough to call a play from sideline. it was really bad, and I expect a quick call was made by Moon or staff, but would have been worse if came after a timeout.

He should be able to recite the damn rulebook at this point.
This is now twice this year, our coaching staff does not know or understand the rules in critical end of game situations. How is this acceptable? He's been here 20 years, if there is one thing he should be excellent at, it is knowing the effing rules.
This is of course another symptom of the laziness, lack of accountability that has infested our MBB program. No one will do anything about it either, that is guaranteed.

My bad just remember the dead ball situation took a while to restart, that is why I was thinking TO.
This is also a coach who over the course of time has had 6 men on the court and used a TO that he didn't have in games against our biggest rival

Yes, GK, I saw that play and was yelling at the TV. If he literally had just turned to start down court and stayed in his same position the ball would have hit him in the back. I do love that Walz seems to be getting more aggressive on both ends of the court.
Oh that happens all of the time due to the fact that our boys are trained to tuck tail and run as soon as a shot goes up. And then I watch VCU last night and watch them crash boards and contest every offensive rebound. Just so frustrating.
I have never understood the strategy behind this. You are literally taking away opportunities from your team and making it easier on the other team. As a player, it is has to be frustrating to know that on defense you have to fight for rebounds while on offense you just let the other team have them.

You would think that experience would help him actually, but I guess not. I have a friend who is a wedding planner and the amount of details she needs to pay attention with things and stuff to keep track of is remarkable. Wedding planning is also about executing under time pressure constraints and making adjustments to last minute unforeseen changes. All useful skills for a coach to have.
We don't know if he was a good wedding planner though. He did get out of the business after all.
