Mens - @ Auburn who will be #2 in the nation - Sun 12/8 noon - SEC network

Normally we hang tough with top level teams, but not this time, my friends. This is at least a 30 point loss, and it could easily be a 50 point loss if Auburn doesn't let off the gas.

They could be coming off a loss at Duke, that could give them motivation.

I expect to be a 27 point underdog.

Best surprise is when Auburn’s #1 in the nation defense wonders how they let us shoot 50% from three…

Curious if anyone else is going to this game - at least 4 of us are going and staying at the Auburn Hotel and Conference Center which is on campus .. if anyone else is going and wants to grab happy hour with us on Sat night, post here ..

This is an opportunity to completely change the trajectory of our season. Admittedly, we have done very little to show we can actually hang with Auburn. Would love to be a fly on the wall how Mooney approaches the game when addressing the team and game planning.

I think to have a chance we need peak Tyne and peak Dlo for starters. Both have 20 plus and solid floor games, make plays and severely limit turn overs. Probably need about 7 made threes from Dusan and Glou combined. And Walz/Beagle/Soulis to use every but of energy to limit Broome.

And Mooney and Boyden to put their normal MO down and go into Tarrant/Dutcher mode for one game.

We need to go from the worst 3pt shooting team in the country to the best of we want to have a chance. That is a pretty tall order.

Also of note, kenpom ranks Auburn as the top team in the country. Playing them on their home court is literally the toughest game any team could possibly play this year.

Probably the same way he does for any other D-1 or D-2 team. Mooney is gonna run the same offense, defense, and rebounding schemes he has for the last 20 years regardless of who is wearing the opposing uniforms. Predictability to the 9's.

You nailed it. This is the reason we need a new coach. A good coach adjusts to the talent of the other team and his own team. Actually ANY coach does this except Mooney, some just do it better than others.

This is the crux of the Mooney era - too many years when just no hope, little to get excited about - other than a miracle A10 tourney run. I should be excited for this game, but no feeling what so ever. Other than hoping we don't get embarrased badly. It happens, hell I was at JMU for the midnight massacre, but we got revenge on them. But my point is with JB and Tarrant, always felt we had fundamentally sound, tough teams. We have had that with Mooney, but it has been on the back of a KA/GONZO/Smitty type of personalities.
I get that moon has his system, and the offense can look good when we have the personnel, but the toughness, rebounding and physicality only come and go when we have those Dawgs - like Dji,Harris, and Bigs last season (Hunt, Quinn, King too.. but we didnt replace the first 3).
That is what gets me, reading about SDSU's success this season - Houston coach specifically called out how good SDSU defense was. Players mention that attitude and expectation from coaching staff. No matter your offensive philosophy and personnel, you can emphasize D and rebounding every season. Seems optional for us - depending on the players.
Hoping for some kind of miracle vs Auburn to jump start the season and change the trajectory, but more dreading the spanking probably coming. Thanks Mooney.
