Mason game is off

Incredible that half of the players/coaches on these teams have covid. Are the ones on pause not vaccinated at a higher rate? Or have they not publicly said their vaccination %, indicating the former m?

Whats the d3 team in Maryland that we played last year doing?

I’m beginning to believe it is possible people are playing games with this. Players not wanting to play, coaches not wanting to play understaffed, whatever.

Ur should televise a inter squad game seniors against next 5.

I'm fine canceling games if players are too sick to participate, but at this point it doesn't make sense to cancel them in an attempt to stop covid from spreading. If you're out doing almost anything right now, there's a pretty good chance you'll come in contact with it.

They don't necessarily all have COVID to be out. If you're unvaxxed, you have to quarantine five days if you have a close contact. Vaxxed folks do not. (As with other entities, the NCAA is also moving toward requiring the booster in order to be considered fully vaxxed.)

I’d hate to be the 10th or 12th man on a college team right now. Once a couple of starters are out, I’m guessing those guys are being told to do whatever they can to land on the “unable to play” list.

Really need the league to either reschedule these games immediately or let us schedule other games.
league needs to look to "bump" up games also -- if 2 teams that are scheduled to play later in the season lose their opponent due to covid league should bump up the available teams game to the vacant date and open up dates later in the season for make up games

I think they’re trying to do that, but it’s proven difficult so far. I saw that before SLU scheduled Iona, the A-10 was trying to get St. Joe’s over there this weekend, but the Hawks couldn’t line up transportation for some reason.

And like with us today, the only other team not in protocols that got canceled for today was St. Joe’s, and we’re not supposed to meet them again. As for next week Tues/Wed, we’re the only game postponed so far, so as of now there’s no one to try to pair up with.

I’m sure there are also TV considerations…if there’s a high profile game later in the season that would lose its prime TV slot by moving up, that complicates things.

I guess it is time to hope that this year the Spiders play like St. Joes and SLU did after their pauses.

We need to stop testing people with no symptoms. If you are sick, stay home. If not, live your life. The same applies to players. Let them play! This virus is unavailable. No mask or game cancelations will prevent the virus from spreading. Time to return to normal life.
Hopefully we are just a few weeks away from doing just that.

I think the league has rescheduled all of the ppd. games so far.
Just had a chance to look this up. From what I see, 10 of 19 postponed games have been rescheduled. Games that still need to be rescheduled:

- Bona @ GW (12/30)
- Duquesne @ Davidson (12/30)
- Mason @ Duquesne (1/2)
- UMass @ Fordham (1/2)
- URI @ Mason (1/5)
- UR @ Fordham (1/8)
- St. Joe's @ Mason (1/8)
- SLU @ Bona (1/8)
- Mason @ UR (1/11)

Mason is in a bad spot, with their first 4 A-10 games having already been postponed.

The league really cannot afford to get a week behind or more on some of these games. They're just holding teams hostage at that point.

You're thinking waaay too logically, Fan1. Stop it!

I was wrong earlier...Mason has had its first FIVE conference games postponed. The VCU game has already been rescheduled, but the other four have not.

With the postponement against us, their next scheduled game isn't until the 17th, so depending on when they come off pause maybe they could play one late in the week if someone is available or things can be shuffled.

After GW on the 17th, they host Dayton on the 22nd, and that's their only 5-day gap between games remaining on their schedule. So they're going to have to squeeze in a bunch of tight turnarounds if they're expected to make up even just the ones that have been postponed so far.

Not sure what factors play into which games might get axed. Opponent availability is obviously a big one, but does the fact we have a second game scheduled against them maybe make it less of a priority to get the first one made up? Conversely, since it's only less than a two-hour drive (barring a snowstorm), does that make it more likely to be made up given simpler travel considerations?

All good questions, and who knows how the powers that be will make decisions. Is there a documented plan of how the league will proceed, or is it an evolving thing based upon standings & other variables? Unless Covid resolves to a much lesser interruption reasonably quickly, I doubt we get in an entire schedule. Needless to say, we still will have to win A10 Tourney assuming there is one.

Yeah, I don't know just what the plan is.

On the women's side, they've been able to pair up teams with openings to get some games moved up. For example, La Salle and Fordham were able to play today after both of them were freed up. And VCU was able to fill in with St. Joe's after their other games scheduled for yesterday and today were postponed.

I'm not sure why that hasn't happened on the men's side yet.

A-10 announced some more rescheduled games today, including St. Joe's @ Mason for 1/24, but still no word on our Mason game. They also have games against URI and Duquesne that still need to be rescheduled.

Their schedule is pretty tight already, but I see a potential opening on Valentine's Day...they play VCU on the 12th and at St. Joe's on the 16th, while we play on the 12th and then not again until the 18th.

Thank you. My valentine is a spiders fan too so no issues here with that date!
