Let’s get a dedicated thread for the accomplishment the ladies made this season. Roussell has kicked ass and so many of these players have made sacrifices for the greater good of the team. Big shoutout to Addie Budnik for the role she played on this team, so much happens because of her.

I just purchased my ticket to the game. $25 for GA, so I’m getting there at open and sitting as low down as possible.

My coworker’s younger sister starts for UCLA, so that would be a really fun matchup in the second round. Time for the women to get the first tourney win in program history.

GO SPIDERS!

GT got 8 points in this week's AP poll after being ranked as high as #13 earlier in the season. Currently #29 in the NET compared to us at #33.

They're 1–7 in Q1 with their sole win being at UNC. No Q3/Q4 losses. They have lost 6 of their last 8, but only lost to top seed NC State by a point in the quarters of the ACC tournament.

Nate Silver has crunched the numbers and rates it a toss-up at 50.2% to 49.8% in favor of the Spiders. Regardless of who wins, he gives them only a 2.5% of winning the next game to get to the Sweet Sixteen.

Will be an interesting game as GT appears to be strong on defense. Opponents only score 64 a game on them and they only allow opponents to shoot 29% from 3, which is our strong point. They have good size, which is comparable to UR. Key will be shooting for UR. We will need to hit 3's as I don't think we make enough 2's with GT defense to beat them. If we can make 10's - which is about UR average on the season, we should feel pretty good.

Really? 2.5%? There's a chance!

Receiving an 8 or 9 seed in the Big Dance only means that the winner is playing the #1 seed in the 2nd round. In this case, the #1 overall in the tourney on their home turf.Usually short lived jubilation.

I think the first tournament win in program history will provide a lot more than short lived jubilation, just my 2 cents.

Well we have to win that 1st game. But it's also the jubiliation of this week leading up to game, and really the week prior too when we knew we were a lock and nothing to sweat. That's what u want to be a lock. not short lived.

Personally I want as high as seed as possible. More strength as program. And honestly what r we giving up vs. a 7/10 matchup. r the odds vs a 2 seed measurably better? They might be worse vs Uconn. Other 2 seeds it's negligible. We're a slight favorite vs GA Tech as 8 seed, we'd be a slight dog vs. any 7. We traded better odds in round 1, for tiny odds difference potentially in rd 2. Plus if u win u get a marquee matchup Sunday in a likely prime TV slot. Where u have a shot to lay your own Giantkiller status.

I love what we got as does the team. Got respect w seeding. Got new team(s) to play. And we're going to LA.

Goal is to get that first NCAA W.

I watched a condensed version of GT versus FSU (GT loss). I have no idea how representative this is of GT's overall play, but some things stood out:
1. They drive the ball to the basket - hard and often. They seem to isolate one defender and try to blow by them.
2. I was surprised by how many mid-range jumpers they took. It looked to be counter to the "three or a layup" mentality that pretty much dominates the game. By the same token, they didn't take many threes with one notable exception.
3. They seemed to play straight up man-to-man defense the entire game.
4. One player really stood out - 5-10 freshman guard Tianna Thompson. Very quick and can shoot the three with accuracy.

Of course this game could be an aberration in many respects - or I haven't learned anything about basketball in the past 50+ years. But the above is what I saw.
