Loyola Chicago Ramblers

We play them today. Discuss.
The Ramblers are our 6th straight opponent who has been to the tournament more recently than us.
They're the third team we've played that has been to the Final Four since 2010.

They may well be better than Kentucky this year.

On the bright side, they couldn't hang with the one quality opponent they've faced so far this year, fading down the stretch and failing to cover a double-digit spread.

I would, but I would probably "write at length in a confused or inconsequential way" which seems to me to be more favorable to our opponent...

Will be interesting to see how the team handles the travel and short turn around. I expect them to be okay with it because we are a veteran crew - but only concern is coming out slow as a result.

Think this will be a close game in the first half - but look for Spiders to pull away in the 2nd half. Francis goes off for 25+.

They have a good, mobile center who will give Golden trouble defensively. Golden will need
to get him in foul trouble before he does. At guards we are much quicker and need to put pressure on them.
I think this will be a close game.

Loyola Chicago is good. We need this game. It could end up being our best OOC win by the numbers. Loyola is essentially even with us in many of the rankings like KenPom and Bart Torvik. Like us they returned virtually all their players. They'll be looking at our game as opportunity to get a key win and enhance at large candidacy with a strong MWC showing.

I hope Mooney and the Spids are ready accordingly.

I don't know about that man, they have three wins. One against a D2 school one against a school so horrible they should be in D2 and one against just an average middle of the road team. Then they lost by double digits to Wiscy.

Agreed LC is a solid team, probably better than Wofford and UNI so will need a solid showing. But if we play well should have no problems with them, we are bigger and more athletic. Spiders -2.5 is enticing...

Keys to today's game:

1) Golden vs Krutwig: coming out of the game with no worse than a push at the C position

2) Perimeter Defense: locking down the perimeter and harassing their shooters, they will take a lot of 3's

3) Defensive Rebounding: don't give up long offensive rebounds off of 3-point shots, when that happens it breaks down our perimeter defense

4) Take Advantage of our Quickness: possibly the most important one - we should have a speed and quickness advantage at almost every position; Gilyard, Francis, Cayo, Burton, and Goose need to take them off the dribble and get to the basket; run them when we can and get easy baskets in transition and off turnovers

That's just their schedule. The team itself can't do anything about it. & I think they've showed pretty well within their schedule so far. They did better against Wisco then we did against WVU. Wisco was hot like WVU, shot 10/18 from 3 but that was a 1 pt game with 15 mins left and Wisco went on huge run. We are not 30 pts or 16 pts worse than WVU and same could be said for Loyola & Wisc imo.

They aren't high in those rankings I mentioned by accident. They were 2nd in MVC last year at 13-5 and 21-11 overall. And they return 90%+ of their stats. They have postseason aspirations. They have guys remaining from a Final Four team.

It should end up being one of our better games, presuming they are right at top of MVC this year as expected.

The Spiders should win with the team we have and the importance of the game, especially after we got steamrolled by WVU. The KY win is still good and should eventually improve but there is some unknown there. So this game takes on added importance.

While we shouldn't be in a bubble spot come NCAA but if we are I don't want to be competing against Loyola if they have a head to head win over us.

I don't take this game lightly myself. Vandy I expected us to control. On Mooney to have these guys ready and locked in.

We should also be highly motivated to get back into Top 25 with a win, but there have definitely been some unsettling patterns to our play. This game will tell us a lot.

They are a blue collar team. They can also put up 3s.We played them close for the 1st 20 mins while in FT Meyers tourney 2 years ago. They hammered us in the 2nd half. This will be a tough game.Sister Jean, their 100 year old nun supporter will be there in abstentia.

Loyola issued game notes 12/18/20:refer to page 7/8

This is a chance to add a good win to our resume. In this COVID environment, I suggest we take it. Still looking for the 40 minute complete effort from this team. Today, might be a good day to have that effort.

if we hit shots we'll win and look like a top 25 team with a beautiful offense.
if we miss shots it'll look like we aren't playing with energy and people will say we're overrated.

let's hit shots. Go Spiders!

Line has moved from Spiders -3.5 to -1.5. Not too may believers in the Spiders.

KENPOM says we win win by 1. 51% chance for a Spider win. #53 versus #56.

Is the game anywhere else other than ESPN+ ? My ESPN+ says it’s a “blackout” game.

travel? 1 hour plane ride.......

Travel in terms of they went to WVU then to Nashville, then straight to Indy - this is rarely done in a normal season. You may once during an OOC session travel from 1 away game to the next. Also quick turnaround - means little to no prep for Spiders.

Sounds like we are sloppy with the ball on offense again. Maybe that is just who we are on offense this year
