London Watch

London had 20 years coaching exp, including nfl, coordinator FBS & head coach FCS. made some mistakes and looks like he'll be gone. Sometimes it doesn't work out but doesn't mean it's because he wasn't ready. London gets piled on too much here.

It's sort of ironic symmetry that our last home football game in December was London's last game coaching the Spiders. Our next one will shortly follow his dismissal from the hook. It's been a long, windy road for both parties.

nice comparison -- also interesting he and Beamer may coach their last game together

if in littlpage's shoes, would think long and hard about keeping him one more year. there are so many great openings and not sure who they can get who will turn it around. maybe next year he will have a chance at a better candidate. a ton more openings coming up in a couple of days or weeks and the competition will be very tough. am sure he has been contacting agents like he did with ML and maybe has a feel as to who he might have a chance to obtain. still think golden is a good fit there but again a grogh man so probably not.

I agree about Golden. Excellent coach. Terrible fit in Miami.

And yes, there are loads of jobs available and Uva is nowhere close to the best of those jobs.

the last thing you want to do is settle for some guy for another 3-5 years, that would be a terrible move and that is what he may have to do. you are right MO, they are way down the list of attractive jobs which will be open. maybe the eagles are laying eggs because kelly has already committed to usc or miami or something.

My inside sources tell me the next UVA coach will be Marc Ritcht.

They have to make a change or whatever remains of their fan base is gone.

Spinner in the mortal words of a star "what you talking about Willis." Have to admit UVA would fit Richt well. He is a good man with stout principles. UGA ready for a change.

PA, know it sounds stupid but only so many really good coaches out there so what do you do, the tennessee two step and hire a derrick dooley type of guy out of desperation? there are 10 big openings already with more to come and the cavs are way down the pecking order so why not just keep your powder dry, unless you already have the guy sewn up, and wait until next year when things may be more sane than what is going on right now. cannot believe lsu or ga would can their coaches when you look at their records. saban makes all fan bases go nuts but he is old and only a couple of more years for him, wait him out.

SEC thinks success is the championship period. I would love to see MR at Virginia. Heck I will take Les Miles at UGA. Unfortunately they have not ask me. Rumor here is UGA courting Stanford coach. I can not imagine leaving there to come here. The fan base here can break a grown man down.

Interesting. I really can't see Shaw leaving for Georgia. I think Shaw's next move will be to the NFL.

richt is in the exact middle of the most fertile recruiting area in the entire nation and he gets his share. can he recruit at a place like uva, not so sure. the prob richt does have is that he has had the past few years when florida and tennessee have had terrible years and he has not dominated, heck, mizzou coming in and winning the east twice. do hold that against him but not sure who you can get who would be better. that is the dilemma in many of these openings, not happy with current results, but can you really get someone who can do better? mike leach to lsu to install the spread? not sure if he would know what to do with all that talent down there but interesting idea.

Going off Mo's point, our last game in December was also on 12/5. At home. Bad omens, expecting those to change in 2 weeks

Heard that Dan Mullen of Mississippi State could be interested. OSC

The kids like London. He is just not a great manager of a staff. He should be able to do what he wants going forward.

UVA on the other hand is in a bit of a pickle. Lots of jobs coming open. Tough year to be hiring a coach. I would move quickly and try to get Richt or Golden. Don't be left standing when the music stops. Don't be afraid to over pay a little and get a good guy locked up.

London has got to be set financially, a good person, never found his way as a HC. As a fellow Spider -- I wish him the best

While Richt might be what Montague and Buffy want up in C'Ville, you cant always get whst you want (to quote the Stones). Per Fox Sports, "don’t be surprised if the 55-year-old calls it a career. The devout Christian has long held other interests, including missionary work overseas. If he never coaches another down, he’ll leave with an undeniably proud legacy."

London is a good man, but he clearly was outclassed coaching in the ACC. If I'm UVA, I do a comprehensive search, I think there are better fits for UVA than Richt.

I learned recently that ML's high school aged (non football playing) son applied to UR and he'd really like to come here.

Mike is a Spider, through and through. I hope he comes back to some games.

If I see Mike at the Brickhouse this weekend I will shake his hand, thank him for his continued support and wish him the best in the future. Mike is a good person and a good Spider! I was told by a reliable source he has continued his support of the Spider Club

I would be most impressed if ML supported Spider Club. Very classy gesture if true and would somewhat mitigate my feelings about the manner of his departure. Not that he cares or even should about my feelings.

I would be disappointed if he hasn't been supporting the Spider Club...he is a Spider that had the benefit of a UR scholarship, he made good money while coaching here and made even more money while coaching 6 years in C'ville.
