London Watch

Tribe will be there next week. We sealed the last coach's fate in 2009. Maybe again!

unless, of course, the cavs beat notre dame this saturday. then maybe and extension???

Not to defend London, but whoever developed UVA's schedule the past few years, should be taken out back and beaten. They have put together these ridiculous difficult OOC schedule the past few years that even really good programs would find exceedingly challenging. Their scheduling philosophy to me is inexcusable, if you are trying to build a winning program, the way not to do that it to schedule like they have.

Nope he moved away from the friendly environs of Charlottesville. Did see the 82 year old George Welsh yesterday and thought if he was the coach most likely the Hoos record would be better.

saw welch while having lunch in c'ville a couple of years after he was removed and he looked great, relaxed, happy. feel that he and snyder at kansas state probably have done the best jobs in college football, at least during my lifetime. if the cavs should pull an upset, they have done it before, then a 10 year deal would be the littlepage way.

In all fairness, with the recruiting classes he brought in most coaches would be able to build up even with that tough of schedule. A bad ACC plus some hard nonconference games coupled with 3 straight top 10 recruiting classes (something like that) would allow most coaches to succeed. Unsurprisingly, London has failed again.

6 point victory over powerhouse W&M. London's extension is in the bag.

I suspect he has put a few coins aside, at least I hope so

think his kids are grown now so he probably will not have to work again unless it is something he wants to do. what will be interesting is to see who they pursue for the job.

Grayson Lambert set the FBS record for completion percentage today (96%). Another one London lost. Unless London inherits a really good team, he has proven he can't coach.

Hoos getting crushed by Boise State. Johns is pathetic...3 ints and an illegal grounding for a safety.
Non-existent running game.
There is just no culture for winning football at UVa. Never has been, never will be. Truly shameful for our state university.
London never had a chance at anything except acquiring some wealth.
Wonder who the next loser will be.

London continues to prove he doesn't understand the game of football. He should have to donate at least half of each paycheck to Eric Ward. He's the one that got him the job. And Clausen, he can take the other half.

never have been and never will be a Cavalier fan...but do believe George Welsh proved you could win at Virginia...he did it for years...overcame the culture...

Welsh was to UVA football what Bennett currently is to basketball...

then they got greedy...ran him off supposedly to win national championships...and it's been mediocrity, or worse ever since...

as with any job opening in a power 5 conf, they will have many options but not sure what direction they go. my son thinks they will contact al golden's agent and he might bite, they don't like him in south florida. welch showed you can win there but it will have to be a very special guy, always thought our DC would be a great fit but don't think he would change jobs this quickly. the guy at rutgers will be available, lou holtz, skip holtz, the nittany lion at temple, the mickster, spurrier may be available. to me, you find a leach protege who knows the spread inside and out and you try that. it worked in the big 12 where upstarts like baylor and texas tech began beating oklahoma, texas, nebraska (watched one sat night as tx tech layed 70 on nebraska a few years ago), also see oregon or odu, which went to the playoffs in their first year in the caa. the sec is seeing the same think now with teams like ole miss now standing toe to toe with the likes of bama. if you have a program which just cannot get over the top, scheme them up and see what happens, cannot be any worse and is fun to watch.

I have always liked London as a person - not a nicer, more genuine guy around. But last night's Boise State game was a display of the following:
1 - an offense that was inept and confused
2 - a defense that didn't have the plan or the talent to beat the opponent
3 - an attitude that was reminiscent of the pre-Welsh days - no fire, no confidence.

I don't know what you do at this point, if things are this bad after six years.

An idiot asst. athletic director who is more a problem than ML. He needs to go if they fire ML or the problem will continue

I believe it was a Ben Martin team in '57 that was a UVA classic. They prepared for a game against Duke, showed up in Durham and realized they were supposed to play Carolina. They showed up late for the Carolina game, with their game plan for Duke. They got clobbered. At least London isn't that bad.

D, got any link to that story. I was interested and tried to find it. Best I found was Wiki link (I know not betting the house on it). Ben Martin coached UVA 2 seasons, 56 & 57. Beat UNC both seasons, 56 in Cv, a UNC forfeit from playing an ineligible player and in CH in 57 20-13.

That is getting up there with the time the UVA basketball team had a game at the Hampton Coliseum and somehow the bus driver thought the game was in Norfolk and went through the Hampton Roads Tunnel and then got stuck in traffic trying to get back and UVA made it to the game just before it was scheduled to start. Don't have a link for that..................

UVA needs a complete do-over: new coach, new AD and new Assistant AD. Without the clean sweep, it will be more of the same with London's replacement.

London would have been better served getting more experience as a FCS or lower head coach or a coordinator at the FBS level. He wasn't and isn't ready.

The UVA department may be the tops in ACC. The problem centers around football and only football. The only problem with Littlepage is that he has not gotten rid of London and Oliver. The other sports are in excellent shape

maybe ML needed a couple of more years as a head coach but know if a school came calling holding out money bags and a number of years, would have jumped at it, a real no brainer. he is set for life now and can continue in coaching if he loves it or just hang around and enjoy himself and fam. he did exactly the right thing, littlepage, maybe not.
