I gotta think this is really no big deal and looks like a mis-understanding
Kyle is a quality guy

The Jersey Journal

Just when you thought a horrific season couldn't get any worse.

New York Giants backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta -- who many fans hoped to see in the starting lineup next week -- was arrested in Weehawken Tuesday morning while driving to the team's practice facility in East Rutherford.

Two sources in Weehawken said the 23-year-old rookie failed to obey a police officer's directions and that Lauletta came close to striking the officer with his vehicle.

Police have not responded to requests for more information on the arrest.

"We are aware of the situation and are in contact with Kyle," a Giants official said. "We are still gathering information."

Lauletta has not taken a snap this year and was declared inactive for the Giants' last game, a 20-13 loss to the Redskins that dropped the team to 1-7. The Giants have a bye this week and don't play again until Nov. 12 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Although he isn't considered the QB of the future for the Giants, many fans had hoped the Giants might sit Eli Manning and see what the fourth-round draft pick out of Richmond University could do.

NJ Advance Media reporter Ryan Dunleavy contributed to this report.

Check out the cop who cited him:

He made a mistake by not following directions, but still it seems like a ridiculous reason to arrest someone

Whatever the situation is, its an incredibly stupid thing to put yourself in that situation when you're potentially about to be handed a starting QB job in the NFL.

if true his life changed today in a very tragic way, could not have come at worse time, hope for his sake it was a horrible mistake , seems i would think very out of character

From what little i've been able to read it sounds like Kyle/his vehicle were cited for a similar traffic violation yesterday but the cops weren't able to stop him. Definitely sounds like an annoyed traffic cop had had enough and when Kyle did the same thing today the cop was going to send a message. Probably doesn't help that Kyle was driving a Jaguar (I know, he's got the right to drive whatever he wants) but a cop sees a guy in a nice car disregarding "his" rules multiple times and then Kyle apparently wasn't responsive to the stop and comes across as "above the law". That's one where you take your medicine, are contrite, deal with the charges/fines in court, and move on.

From what I’ve read, this seemed like a situation in which Lauletta was frustrated with traffic and was likely going to be late for practice. His impatience led him to make a poor decision. Should he have followed the cops direction? Yes. Had he been more cordial, contrite, and cooperative with the officer could he have gotten away with just a citation? More than likely.

At the end of the day, this won’t cost him his entire career. It would be ridiculous to do so. Of all the reasons someone can get arrested this is on the very low-end of the scale.

What’ll most likely happen is Lauleta will face some kind of team disciplinary action and miss his opportunity to start for the Giants for the foreseeable future. An unfortunate situation. Lauletta is a good kid. He will rebound from this and I’m sure this is a lesson he’ll remember for the rest of his life

if the report on pro football talk is true these are very serious charges , if there is an issue. i hope he gets help , everyone makes mistakes, its a big let down this happened i know he made spider fans proud of him just not for the on field things , but also the young man he was off the field. . i hope this one bad day , does not throw away everything he has worked so hard for

Each is a minor violation, but as a whole, it's not good for him.

More disturbing to me is the possible "above the law" attitude. If so, then he is off my favorites list. Nothing pisses off any cop more (including me)....

i gather you are a police officer , so i respect your opinion , and as a father of an officer , say thanks for your service, .

I don't believe this bogus Keystone Cops account. Kyle's one of the most personable and down to earth athletes you'll run into. Let's see the cctv footage of Kyle "almost hitting officer with car" before making a rash decision on his character.

Maybe the officer is not a Giant's fan?

There’s something wrong with you if you’re following or searching Beyoncé’s anything. Like his opinion means a shit. Hell, mine might be more compelling.:D

I agree that from everything Ive ever heard that Kyle is a great young man. It’s very likely that this cop took it personally...I have read a few articles that say Kyle did the same thing yesterday, and I’m sure the sight of the same Jaguar doing the same thing today ticked off said cop. But you have to be responsive when pulled over and take your medicine. You can fight the charges in court later but let the cop vent and move on. I’m guessing Kyle didn’t want to be late for practice and let that override his better judgment. He will learn from it and be fine.

It is a good thing this happened to him. It will be a wake-up call. He is going to realize that the rules apply to him too. He also needs to remember to be careful where he spends his nights. If he is not careful, he could end-up with a lot of babies and no job. In the end, he is just a football player.

We've all seen Kyle put passes in extremely tight places, this cop just didn't know Kyle can safely maneuver his Jag through tight places

I'm retired now, thanks for your words. The job is much different now, we live in a world of cameras and social media.
Now I'm listening to Bob Black saying on the air that the officer had an attitude problem and must be a Manning fan. Maybe they both had an attitude, but one of them was breaking the law and the other was trying to do a thankless job.

And thank you for raising a fine son who is willing to put his life on the line for unappreciated people with attitude problems.

Rick - you are the kind of person that makes me proud to be an American. First you served in the Marines(or was it Navy as what I remember is you met your British wife while on active duty) and then as a policeman. My son-in-law is a policeman and tonight the four grandsons - age 2 -9 - will be a Halloween Swat Team. You have got it right about the police having a thankless job. The small thing we can each do is encourage the police with kind words whenever we have the opportunity.

As far as Lauletta he is a fine young man who I trust will get this straightened out with enough pain to not repeat it but not enough pain to hurt his career.

Not sure what the "truth" is on this, but if the charges are accurate then my guess is the Giants will cut him.
