Joe Biden allowed Jose Antonio Ibarra into this country in 2022 by Joe Biden. This illegal immigrant killed a nursing student on the campus of the University of Georgia. The only people who care are Republicans.

Laken Riley was found dead on Feb. 22 near the University's Intramural Fields after campus police were called by a concerned friend saying that she had not returned from her morning run.

"Laken was an amazing daughter, sister, friend and overall person in general. Her love for the Lord was exemplified in every aspect of her life. She will be missed every day, but we promise to honor her life moving forward in a very big way,"

She had her whole life ahead of her. She was bright, intelligent and beautiful. She was sacrificed for the open borders at the hands of democrats for the benefit of a low life scum from Venezuela. Defend this.

tell the house to take up the border bill

So stay in the past looking at all the bad things (only done by Democrats without any ”sinning” - even if from omission let alone commission - by Republicans) and not look to bipartisan solutions?

The bill the House refuses to take up is likely the best reform available for the foreseeable future. With the Senate needing 60 votes for legislation, this legislation coming out of the Senate is a major move.

Is it perfect? What is?

Even if the Republicans take back the Senate, hold the House and regain the Presidency, getting 60 votes in the Senate will be a tough mountain to climb. I say take this bill and tweak it going forward.

Make sense to me. It is foolish to walk away from a compromise. Trump wants that legislation blocked.

To be fair, H.R.2, Secure the Border Act of 2023 passed the House in May 2023. No action by Senate as Schumer considered it Dead on Arrival.

Same game. Different party.

Also to be fair, HR2 is red meat to the base and not a bill that has a chance in this Senate, let alone one more skewed Republican.

it passed the house R yes 219 n0 2
democrats yes 0 -- no 211

Doesn't look like any compromise on HR 2 (and not unanimous Rs) , opposite of senate bill that was negotiated by members of both parties.

Senate bill was headed for likely passage until Trump nixed it. test vote failed 49-50, needed 60 votes.

The Senate bill was never assured of getting 60 votes even before Trump voiced his opposition. So we end up blaming the House over a Senate originated Bill that was never passed?

Agree never assured, but most head counters I have heard feel it was likely to pass until Trump spoke up.

My question have the Republicans surrendered the party to Trump?

I agree with Wood that the Republicans will suffer, particularly among women, over their abortion position.

Believe the Democrats will suffer among women, men and particularly minority citizens over the total mess they made of the border. Politically, easy to see why they would seek to shift blame to their opponents in an election year.

The point is that the Republicans had leverage because it indeed was an election year and chose to not use it to solve problem (albeit incompletely - hence the term compromise) the Party has long demanded at the behest of its leader solely for political gain.

Totally, agree, but this mess was created by Biden and Obama. Trump will not be able to pass any legislation.

ICE confirmed he had been encountered by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Sept. 8, 2022, after entering near El Paso and was "paroled and released for further processing."

ICE also confirmed that Ibarra had been arrested by the New York Police Department a year later, on Sept. 14, 2023, and "charged with acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation."....

ICE's statement says Ibarra was released before a detainer could be issued. NYC is also a "sanctuary city," which generally restricts law enforcement from complying with ICE detainers.

The immigration issue is the product of neglect from both parties. W Bush sought to address it with the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 and it was scuttled by his party. To say it is the solely fault of the Democrats (specifically Biden and Obama) is false.

Except, there have been more than 7.2 million let into this country since Biden became President.

Largely agree, but would carve out the last 3 years.

What has happened over this period is unprecedented and results directly from Biden Administration policies.

They own the debacle of the past 3 years.

Now Biden is considering exercising his Executive Authority to tighten up entry. Could have done that from Day 1 instead he did the opposite by ditching his predecessor's policies that empirically worked far better.

Eager to see how this is explained away, if he does indeed issue Executive Orders.

This is a very reasonable rejoinder.

Laken Riley had her skull disfigured by the illegal immigrant.

"The illegal immigrant suspect charged in Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley's death in Athens, Georgia, is accused of "disfiguring" her skull, according to new information added to the affidavit. "

Renzo Mendoza Montes a 32 year old Venezuelan illegal immigrant has raped a 14 year old girl in Campbell County. When will Democrats care? The hypocrisy is stunning.

This editorial from the National Review clearly states Democrats' policies that led to Laken Riley's murder. The hypocrisy of the left is telling. Defend this policy, or at least criticize it.

"If millions of immigration-enforcement encounters are a statistic, the murder, by blunt force trauma to the head, of one American young woman is a tragedy.

Negligent enforcement policies set by the Biden administration, indulgent “sanctuary” given to lawbreakers by our cities, and abusive appropriation of taxpayer resources to aid aliens in their lawbreaking all likely contributed to the killing of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old Georgia nursing student. Her death is the result of United States policy enabling a criminally minded man who came here to press a bogus asylum claim."

I guess the Republican house shouldn't have torpedoed the Senate's bipartisan immigration bill then, and actually done something to start fixing the problem. But instead they put genuflecting to their hero Fatso ahead of their country.

Why haven't the Republicans used their majority in the House to advance some sort of immigration reform bill? They've had the majority since Jan., 2023, and done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to possibly fix the problem. Why didn't the Senate advance some sort of immigration bill when the Republicans were in the majority before 2020?

Why haven't Republicans done ANYTHING?

Mr. G, where was all this outrage when Republicans stood by and said "now is not the time for action" or "it's too early to talk about it" after the numerous mass shootings in this country? After Sandy Hook, Orlando, Parkland, Las Vegas, Aurora, Columbine, Lewiston, etc. etc. etc., you Republicans said it was distasteful to politicize someone's death, and some of you even disavowed that these massacres even took place or called the survivors "crisis actors."

I agree that now is a very good time to put together a strong immigration reform.

The weakness of your argument is that immigration is run by the executive branch. Even if the policies were put in place, Biden still has to enforce them. Biden has not enforced any policy.

Once again, where is the outrage at letting in this man. You can criticize others, but you can't criticize Joe Biden.
Why won't Biden enforce the laws on the books? Why did Biden dismantle every Trump program on immigration?

You criticize the speck in another's eye, but you fail to see the plank before your eye.

By way of reminder:

""We have rescinded so many Trump immigration policies, it would take so much time to list them!"

You don't care that this young girl was murdered by an illegal immigrant. Her skull was staved in by repeated beatings.
Of course I care. And I also care about the other 50,000 homicides in this country, almost all of which were committed by US citizens.

Clarke County, Georgia, Sheriff John Q. Williams (D), representing Athens, where 22-year-old Laken Riley was murdered allegedly by an illegal alien, said he opposed turning criminal illegal aliens over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation, claiming the practice promotes a “culture of fear.”

Williams, who successfully ran for sheriff in Clarke County Sheriff in 2020, told Athens Politics Nerds at the time that he opposed cooperating with ICE. The federal agency often relies on local law enforcement to turn over to their custody illegal aliens arrested for crimes so they can be detained and deported from the United States.

“It is not my intention, when elected sheriff, to cooperate with those detainers,” Williams said in response to a question regarding ICE detainers, which are issued against illegal aliens wanted by the agency after they are arrested on local charges:

If you cared about homicide, you would be in favor of strong law enforcement. Prosecution of crimes, especially petty crimes, suppresses homicides. Failure to prosecute leads to increased crime.

The DA in Athens-Clarke County has NEVER secured a guilty verdict in a jury trial since taking office in 2020. Also states that she will NEVER seek the Death Penalty. Let that sink in.

In a county that large I suspect ADAs handle most, if not all, of the jury trials.

DAs are often more administrators than trial attorneys.

If you cared about homicide, you would be pushing for reasonable gun regulation, especially the banning of assault rifles for civilians. Guns are the leading cause of death for children in this country, but like a good Republican, you can offer thoughts and prayers for those killed by guns, as if that is going to help.
