@ La Salle

We absolutely dominated tonight against a team that has lost a lot of close games. Very good ball movement on offence and suffocating defense. 18-6 with no freshman.

Also, we are selling out 3 straight games, while La Salle can't halfway fill a tiny gym. It is good to be a Spider!

A few more thoughts from last night's game:

- It's not often we beat a team up like we did last night. We outrebounded them by 18, including 12 to 5 on offensive boards. Points in the paint we won 44-16. And this was without even shooting the ball particularly well (47% overall, 21% from 3). La Salle is not a good team but in recent weeks they've lost to Rhode Island by 3 and taken Saint Louis to OT so this is not a team with no talent.

- Regarding Sal, I know Philly had a lot of thoughts on here about him and Mooney's treatment of him. I understand it but this is big boy college athletics. We are winning and playing well this season. Sal needs to make the most of his minutes to prove he deserves more and right now he's not really doing that. Nobody is going to give it to him, he has to earn it. In his 8 minutes last night he missed both free throws and didn't grab a rebound. Meanwhile Burton has come in and shown he's a high level A10 player and shot right past him on the depth chart. I think and hope Sal can be a good player for us but if he doesn't grab the spot somebody else will.

- Nobody played more than 28 minutes last night - a great thing with VCU game up next.

I absolutely hated what CM did to Sal at the end of the half. Put him in and he walked (while trying to be aggressive offensively) and Moon took him out immedtely after only like 8 secs of play. Sals body language said it all about how it made him feel. Don’t get that at all. Really don’t. He’s a guy we need to be developing. Can’t punish him for mistake like that. Effort yes, not knowing your assignments maybe, but traveling while trying to make a play is no way to develop a raw guy.

Thank god you were there. Its almost like having Billy Packer commentate.....almost

BF played really well last night and it is impressive how quickly he has returned to form both physically and skill wise. Last night showed how valuable he can be when he doesn't only look for his own shot when he has the ball but also does a lot of drive penetration and if his shot is not there, find the open man instead of forcing a bad shot. If he can keep this strategy up, I feel very positive about us giving even the good teams in our league a battle every game. If he decides to go back to forcing shots no matter if he has a cold hand and can't get open, then he becomes a liability offensively and it can lead to the offensive droughts as a team we have seen.

Sad! One reason we should realize Mooney only leaves UR if fired and not hired by a P5/6 school. That coaching style wouldn't cut it in the big leagues. Plus does anyone here think he could recruit successfully at that level?

Really blew out an opponent they should have blown out. Maybe that's turning the corner as VCU heads into the Robins Center. Good win on the road--couldn't do that to Fordham so this was encouraging.

Yeah, teams that are coming off of 7 game losing streaks seem to be figuring things out. Very dangerous. And literally ever team in the league has beaten St. Joes, as they have 0 conference wins.

If we want to talk about us being a potential at large team, we will go up there and pole ax this crappy team, that plays in a crappy high school gym, whose school is barely financially viable.

I know we almost crapped the bed against Fordham, but come on greatest class ever, just do what you need to do tonight. Do y'all want to play in the NCAA at some point in your career or do you want to lose to frickin LaSalle?
Told y'all the greatest class ever wasn't gonna mess around with LaSalle. Now the question is can the greatest class ever deliver for Mooney the really big and meaningful win over VCU that has alluded him during his tenure. I say yes, because they are the greatest class ever, and that is what they do.

You know one positive about Sal towards end of game, he was outside the foul line extended, got ball
and turned and faced basket and dribbled ball like that of a guard, looking for an opening. I had heard he was a good ball handler but had never witnessed it.

Honestly I think his personality is reflected on the court and it takes him longer to get comfortable on court.
Someone just needs to fire him up on bench before he comes in. Wood the transfer from VaTech was similar in that there were nights you never knew he was on the court.

Hey, just so long as we're in unanimous agreement that absolutely no credit shall be assigned to Chris Mooney for this or any of the other 17 wins this year, I'm good with the win.

For what is worth, doesn't seem like Sal and Burton are competing for minutes - they are playing different positions for us. Sal has been used pretty much exclusively as a back-up at the 5 this year, its either him or Grace in the game for GG unless we are playing small.

It looked like sal got to play more of a 4 role than the 5 he’s been doing and maybe that’s better suited to his skill set. I don’t get a feeling that Matt is ever going to play super aggressively so I don’t see much separation between those two. Sal feels to me like a smoother player but that hasn’t translated to much because either he’s the last scoring option intentionally or he feels uncomfortable taking the shots he is given.

Sal has potential to be a late bloomer but admittedly I was high on him last year and he has largely disappointed this year. Grace will never be more than a back-up center for us and to have any other expectation of him is simply ill placed.

I still want to see Sal over Grace in games just because of that potential but at this point, both are giving us more rest minutes for Grant than anything else.

VCU is looking like that heavyweight just wobbling around in the center of the ring, begging to be destroyed by an uppercut to the chin. Please god let Saturday be the day we deliver that punch and finish them.
Man I sure hope so. I'm not sure if VCU losing last night was a good or bad thing. Obviously I always want them to lose but are we going to get the Rams that are still defeated after last night or was that a wake up call for them and they are going to come pissed off on Saturday. Either way the Spiders need to beat them Saturday.

VCU losing is always a good thing.

True but my point wasn't really that they were competing for minutes (maybe I wasn't clear). We have 200 minutes per game to use. Somebody is going to get those minutes. Tyler has come in a played so well that we can't keep him off the floor. Every time he plays he seems to impact the game on both ends of the floor.

Sal is getting 8 minutes per game. He's played in all 24 games. He's getting his chances he just needs to do more with them.

If anyone should be pissed on Saturday, it should be us. VCU humiliated us in their building a few weeks ago. We played like crap. Our guys should be mad and looking for revenge.

Regardless of how you look at VCU’s lost, it is a good omen for us. The stars are aligning in the right direction for us. All we have to do now is take care of business. Mind over matter is our mantra!!!
