"It's Frustrating"

Mooney defintely has a pecking order. Josh wasn't given a chance the past 2 years. Kadeem was not given a chance this year. SDJ would not have been given a chance last year had it not been for Ced's injury. How do we expect these guys to develop or frankly even show what they can do in the game without extended play?

And seriously, we know how this is going to play out. I would be absolutely stunned if CM changes anything significantly the rest of the year. He is both stubborn and loyal, it ain't gonna happen.

Regarding Trey's shot, I have heard Jerry West preach that form is critical. Jack Nicklaus said you have to have someone look at your mechanics because if you go to the range and hit a thousand balls with a flaw in your swing all you are doing is ingraining the flaw.
I don't know how many shots Trey and Deion have practiced but they will never be even average shooters with the forms they have. They need coaching help from someone who understands basic shot mechanics. Sad this is a discussion at the end of their junior year.

I have often wondered at the nearly non-sensical decisions regarding who starts at times. I always couch this with the statement that I don't know what goes on in practice or with player health/attitude/whatever.

That being said, I speculate that it's a defense-first decision. I think our defense is pretty complicated and is kind of brittle...it only takes one dude not doing his job for it to get exploited pretty quickly. As a result, there's a premium placed on guys who understand the D and play it well, regardless of their other contributions.

At times over the last 2 seasons, I've seen TA, ANO, and Josh struggle with the D. I don't see that happen too often with TD or DT, they are good about their switches and movement.

So I think it boils down to he who gets the D gets to play. Until you get that, you don't play much, or you have a very quick hook.

This is what I would like to hear from our head coach. Manning will have Wake in the tourney in no time.

Codi Miller-McIntyre had 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists but committed a turnover on the final possession with one second left. Wake Forest fell to 0-6 in conference road games with three of the losses coming by three points or fewer and another in double overtime.
"We've had a lot of games this year by that definition, and I'm tired of it," coach Danny Manning said of the idea of the loss being a "learning experience.

Seems like this should have been addressed during freshman year. If it hasn't happended by now, don't expect any real differences next year.

speaking of frustrating and frustrated...

during last night's CBS Sports Network Tuesday night A-10 game...an NCAA Tournament profile for one of the teams was flashed on the screen for viewers...along with RPI, "good" wins etc... "bad losses" was also listed...a loss to Richmond appeared there...

sometimes even a win can be frustrating!

Mojo- it was a bad loss. RPI at full strength and at home with no excuse got their butts whipped. I was there to see it!!!!!

That's because our RPI is sitting at 105 right now.

Spider I agree they had a whole redshirt year to work on their shot and didn't apparently do anything?

Even as a head coach Beilein worked on shooting skills.

I would argue the results are not the same. In Mooney's back to back NCAA seasons, he had a veteran team that had a lot of experience playing together since those guys were frosh/sophs. They got to play a lot of minutes in those early years, and gained experience that paid off when they were mostly juniors/seniors. We had a top PG in KA, we had a very good big man in Geriot, and we had an NBA type player in Harper. Surrounded by well fit role players in Butler, Smith, Martel, Brothers, etc. and toughness and shooting of Gonzo.

I see a very similar team makeup this year, but the results don't match. We have a top PG in Gilyard. No - he is not KA, but he is likely a top 3 PG in the league. We have a very good big man in Golden. And we have a potential NBA player in Burton on the wing. We have good role players in Goose, Cayo, Grace - and we have some shooting off the bench in Sherod and Crabtree. AND - these guys have a lot of experience playing together over the last 3-4 years. This is the recipe Mooney wins own. If all went to plan - this team would have gone to NCAA 1 or 2 times - similar to the other back to back team.

Then they would have all graduated, we would be in rebuild mode, but hopefully load up on younger guys, let them play a lot together early in Frosh/Soph years and then make another NCAA run Junior/Senior years.
But we have not been able to do it. So I don't think the results are the same - I think they got worse.

We miss the toughness and talent of a big 2-guard like Gonzo was for us back in the day, and like Brothers was to a lesser extent.

I agree with this post. Things are worse and will continue to get worse. Mooney has been figured out and refuses to change to combat being figured out.

Agree results are worse. My original intent about the results being the same was a going downhill movement - sadly that movement keeps accelerating .......................
