School hires firm to help find new AD

Virginia Commonwealth University President Michael Rao announced Friday that a search firm, Carr Sports Consulting LLC, has been hired to identify and evaluate candidates to become the school’s next athletic director.
Rao also announced the members of a search committee and an advisory committee to assist the search firm.
VCU is looking to replace Norwood Teague, who is leaving to become the AD at Minnesota.
David Benedict, who is serving as the interim AD, enjoys strong support and certainly will be a candidate. Benedict, who joined the athletic department in 2010, has been serving as the executive associate athletic director.
Rao said the process would be expeditious.
The 18-member advisory committee will assist in identifying criteria for the AD and issues for the future success of the athletics program.
The nine-member search committee will select candidates for interviews and recommend up to four finalists to Rao. Richard O. Bunce, the senior advisor to the president, will serve as the committee chairman.
Also on the committee are David Boardman, chief executive officer of Dynamic Brands; John Doswell, vice rector of the board of visitors; Mike Ellis, associate athletic director; Sofia Hiort-Wright, associate athletic director for academic support and associate dean for student services; Joseph Marolla, vice provost for instruction and NCAA faculty athletics representative; Stuart Siegel, member of the board of visitors; Shaka Smart, men’s basketball coach; and Beverly Warren, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
